Moorer - Foreman: The fight is usually described as Moorer was easily outboxing and whipping Foreman who got lucky when he landed his lone punch of the evening. In truth there were several exchanges and Foreman did land several good shots all the way and it wasn't a whitewash by any means, even though Moorer was clearly in the lead.

Hopkins - Hakkar: People remember the ridiculous running display of Hakkar's in the first round. In the middle of second round however he settled down and started to try, firing three and four-punch combinations even and getting up from the floor. He was, of course, overmatched and Hopkins was toying with him but after the nervous breakdown in the first Hakkar did try his best.

Lewis - Tua: Much better fight than people usually give it credit for. It wasn't nearly the explosion that HBO had promised and people were understandably disappointed, but it was a pretty solid if undramatic fight. What most don't remember either is that the fight was even after four rounds (3-1, 2-2, 1-3) and Tua was doing some good work before Lewis upped the pace, he didn't quit after the first big punch as often stated.

Toney-Nunn was competitive and pretty even after 10 imo, but it's remembered as a near shut out for Nunn until he got caught.

I'm no Duran nuthugger, but I'll co-sign on that one... I had it 4-3 for Leonard... People make it sound like Whitaker/Haugen

Ali/Foreman is typically presented as Muhammad Ali laying on the ropes absorbing shots to the flanks for 7 rounds and then suddenly landing a few punches and voila! victory... The truth is that from the third round on, his strategy was working spectacularly well and he continuously landed sharp, clean counters in between all of Foreman's largely useless thunder... There's just no way, to me, that Ali wasn't leading after 7 rounds

Ali/Cooper I (Clay/Cooper, if you prefer) ... The myth of the extended rest period is one that has always irritated the shit out of me... It never happened... It's nonsense, ironically fueled by Angelo Dundee himself... The time elapsed between rounds was something like 63 seconds instead of 60... If three whole seconds is the difference between a certain knockout loss and a very easy stoppage win, that's the story of the century

Duran/Buchanan ... A shot to the nuts in the 13th wins the fight for Duran... no, no, no, a thousand times NO... I love Ken Buchanan, he was a great boxer and a ridiculously tough and resilient guy, one of my favorites, but he was hopelessly behind in that fight... He fought hard and won a few rounds, but he was just too far behind to do anything but gamely lose a decision, he didn't have the power to alter the fight in his favor and there was simply no way he was going to win that match, even if his testicles had remained unharmed

I'm no Clogg fan, but I'll co-sign on the Duran/Buchanan analysis. I gave Buchanan four, maybe five rounds, but there was no way he had a chance of winning that fight regardless of the low blow ending. It wasn't a Bowe/Golota situation where Duran deserved a DQ and Buchanan retain his title. It was accidental foul and had he been able to continue Duran could had stopped him clearly afterwards anyway.

I don't think alot of persons think that foreman was winning against Ali before the KO. Most acknowledge that Ali was wining pretty easilly.

When fights are close but the scorecards are wide a lot of fans like to overcorrect this by making it sound like one guy was completely "robbed".

    Leonard-Hagler

I don't know about winning easily but a lot of people think Ali was basically doing nothing at all other than waiting for George to gas.

You should hear the way that fights get 'remembered' in Scottish media :atu: You'd think Ken was winning 12-0

Ali/Cooper I was actually quite competitive. It wasn't an Ali-London type blowout or anything. Agreed on the rest period though, way too much made of it.

    within the "boxing community", sure

But the way the event is portrayed on a mainstream level is far different... It's like Ali let Foreman win rounds, did nothing and then decided fight back

Yeah, I've read the numerous posts on here, some of them from sane people, that had it 5-4 or 6-3 after 9 rounds and I find that laughable... Trinidad did nothing but miss and follow Oscar for 9 rounds

I agree. I literally can't stand watching Lewis, the most hideous, frustrating fighter to watch of all time. I hate his stupid gormless face, his shitty, boring style, pawing jab, the way he moves, his faggot voice, pretty much everything about him.

However, I must admit my recollection of that fight, even as a Tua fan, is that Lewis won pretty much every round.

The thing I hated most about Lewis was that thing he'd do at the end of fights where he'd thump his chest and curl his lip like he was having a stroke. 'Big up! Big up!'. THERE IS NO EMOTICON for how queer that was.

Also wasn't his self anointed nickname 'the lion' at one point? Just the absolute pits.

Slice it's been well established over the years that you are certifiably insane. Your testimony is stricken from the record!
