I only agree on Lawler, while I'm a big fan of him, I think GSP would lay and pray him rather easilly, and would only give him a puncher chance. Concerning Lombard, I think spurts fighting would work well on GSP, and he's strong enough to stuff most of GSP attempts, and might well get him down himslef. As I said, i would bet money on Lombard over GSP if the odds were good enough. I think Woodley, with his explosive punches and good wrestling, would also give hell to GSP. And for Hendricks, I tought he won the first fight rather clearly, and I would favour him in a rematch. Anyway, I expect us to have an aswer soon, since I dont expect GSP to be retired for long
Your hate for Joosp is clouding your judgement. On a very off day he still beat Hendricks, and he'd do the same to any other 170 pounder until proven otherwise.
While I'm not a fan, I don't hate GSP.I think he's a great fighter, but he ruled over a rather weak ww division imo. What's this thing about him being on an off day vs Hendrix ? He hasn't looked dominant , explosive and dynamics for a while. In fact, the last time he looked really good was against Koschek, who is pretty much garbage as we have seen afterward
it wasn't all that pleasant to watch, but lombard pretty much toyed w/ shields like no other has. shields has a very good takedown defense and lombard was able to take him down at will w/ judo trips (which by the way, seem way more efficient than double leg takedowns). plus, when was the last time anyone's seen shields in an exciting fight. lombard beat him in every aspect minus going to the ground.
oh yea, i think hendricks have become only the SECOND NCAA division 1 champion to win a UFC title, the first being brock lesnar. i'm kinda surprised about that. couture was a two time finalist, but lost both times in the finals.
That's NITPICKING, Dude... GSP Beat EVERYBODY in his Division, Literally...Some of them MORE than 1nce...There's No Argument to Be Made AGAINST GSP Being THE Greatest Welterweight in UFC or MMA History... REEDhno:
Though Wrestling is Universally Viewed as THE Best Attribute to Bring to MMA, it's Obviously NOT the Be All to End All, in Terms of Becoming an ELITE MMAist... REED:mj:
Hendricks hurt his elbow and was fighting well less than 100 percent. Usually not much of a injury excuse guy but he certainly looked considerably worse than when he fought GSP....might be credible. I remember Cain looked pretty terrible in the first JDS fight when he came in with a reported injury then beat the hell out of JDS the next two(which I expected to happen in the first place) so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt especially since Lawler isn't that good.
Not denying this, but still, his resume is not as impressive as it once seems. TBH, I always tought that the talent level in the ww division was rather low, it only improved recently imo
And what are Hendricks excuses for his fights with Condit and Kosheck, both he arguably lost (had him winning vs Condit but losing to Kosheck). Fact is, Hendricks is not all that, he's strong, good wrestling and a good punch, but his standup is pretty limited to haymaykers and his gas tank is suspect. He won't last long as a champ imo.
When Fedor lost, I remember thinking how Silva and GSP were going to be far much higher ranked than him when it would all be said and done. But now, it seems they will be pretty much all be ranked on the same level with a slight edge to Silva.
They pretty much are around the same level. Depends on the typical nitpicking and the strength of their performances. But this is good, you need some debate in these discussions. There are some people who don't have Sugar Ray Robinson number 1 and that's fine. Really will be an afterthought however if Jones keeps going the way he's going.
Hendricks Was on a Local Sports Radio Station, a Couple Hours Ago, & Said he Hurt the Elbow about 2 Weeks PRIOR... Said it COMPROMISED his Ability to Execute the Number of Takedowns he Initially PLANNED & had an Effect on his Ability to PUNCH as Well... As you Stated, Hendrick's HASN'T Been an "Excuse Guy", so he Deserves the Benefit of the Doubt... REED:hammert:
agREED... Hendricks IS what he Is, which is Pretty Much How you Described Him... He's Pretty Much GUARANTEED to Produce a Fan Friendly Fight, but REED Doesn't See Him Being a DOMINANT Champ...w/his STYLE, FLAWS & Severe WEIGHT CUTTING, he's Simply NOT Built for Longevity... REED:hammert:
If Bones SUSTAINS his Brilliance @ 205, then Moves Up & WINS the Title @ Heavyweight (Especially if Cain's Still Reigning Supreme By Then), It'll Be Hard to Argue AGAINST him Being the Best MMAist Ever... REED:hammert:
It might have just shaken him up a bit rather than actually taken something out of him. When it comes to fighting in the cage, I'd imagine he's the same. It would be pretty weird if just ONE tough fight significantly took something out of him.
it was more than just a tough fight. For man who thinks of himself and invincible that fight was devastating.
REED Thinks it May have DINGED Bones' Confidence a Bit, but it's NATHAN He Can't Overcome... ANXIOUS to See Jones-Texiera... REED:hammert:
I would definitely argue Jones over Cain would be the single greatest, most impactful and historical notable win in MMA history. When I think of fights between all time greats I think Hughes-St Pierre II Nogueria - Fedor Henderson - Silva St-Pierre - Penn II Now unfortunately the St-Pierre Penn II fight is marred by the greasing scandal, and Hughes was arguably past his prime when he lost to GSP, but the other two are big time fights and despite that I'd still say Jones over Cain would be bigger.
Kevin Randelman is the one I was looking for and he did win a couple of NCAA championships. There may be some more, but I haven't looked at the rest of the list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UFC_champions
speaking of ncaa wrestling, it's been a great tourney so far with plenty of upsets. for those who are interested, tune in on espn around 7 for semi finals. the most anticipated match tonight is probably ed ruth vs. gabe dean at 184 pounds.
