Who wins this fight at MW? Who wins at LHW?

i think i like Toney to shade it. If he can be arsed.

Hopkins. More versatile, and just better.

Hard to call but I don't think Hopkins gives Toney enough to work with in terms of counter punching. I'm thinking Bernard in close one. Split/majority decision.

Hopkins by close decision by using his legs and minimizing exchanges... Toney never could handle good legs

Hopkins ain't a mover/keeper awayer. I think toney is better at the thing Hopkins does best and wins more of the exchanges.

Toney is a counter puncher. Hopkins would do the better, more steady work inside. Plus Nard has always had great movement. Not your classic fleet footed boxer, but mobile enough, and has always had good, economical footwork. Certainly enough to trouble Toney.

    Agree with Mex here.

For Toney to he successful, his opponent must come to him. Hopkins will move around, use the jab, and force him to open up, and Hopkins will benefit from that type of fight.

No stoppage of course. Hopkins wins a close but clear decision.

Yeah, but Hopkins would come to him in his headbutt, accurate first punch, clinch manner.

I never liked either one of these guys, but it is unfortunate that this fight never happened.

I guess I'd lean slightly to Toney. He's better at distance, he gets off quality shots in close, he's hard enough to hit clean that Hopkins might not have success coming in. Actually, fuck it. I'll say draw. No way it's a ko. Wouldn't expect either to be able to demonstrably prove he's better than the other.

The thing is, Hopkins isn't a guy who uses speed or range to steal shots then gets out of dodge like Jones or Nunn, when exchanges happen he'll usually still be there long enough to engage. He doesn't punch and move/retreat as much as he moves when he doesn't want to be punching. His game is picking his moments and being so much more technically sound than most guys that he consistently gets the better of exchanges.

putting aside the fact that Toney's 160 resume shits all over Hopkins, Toney still beat plenty of fighters who were way more mobile than Hopkins

being too mobile for Tito is not the same as being too mobile for Toney

A real chess match in their primes, I think I'd pick Hopkins to take a close UD. I'm a huge Toney fan, but a prime Hopkins was just a more complete fighter & could fight in the style he'd need to give Toney problems. Again, close fight either way.

Hopkins couldn't find the style he needed to get the W over Jermain Taylor......yes he was old/weight drained and I actually had Hops winning, but the point remains - he wasn't some infinitely adaptable tactical genius, just a very technically sound guy.

If we're talking the Toney from the first McCallum fight, then it's a damn near a pick em fight. Slight edge to Hopkins, but not much of one. Toney was a lot quicker than some of yall seem to remember.

He only looked "slow" compared to Jones. But against Hopkins, he wouldn't be seeing that type of speed.

Let's all consider how much better Toney was than the likes of Tito, Echols, and Glenn Johnson.

It'd be a very close fight.

I wish this fight would have happened, I'd be pretty confident of Hopkins winning.

IMO it makes more sense to hold Toney's fights with Tiberi & Thadzi against him than it does to hold those fights against Hopkins

I think its obvious he was in horrible condition for both fights. I still had him beating Thadzi.

Are you kidding? Did you see the Trinidad fight? Legs and a jab set up everything for Hopkins in that fight

Like who? Nunn was bamboozling Toney until he got overconfident and started planting his feet and overcommitting

Post ten. It might sound like a distinction without a difference but i dont think it is.

Yeah, but Nunn was way ahead when he got stopped. Had he kept sticking and moving, he would've been fine. Hopkins is a much more disciplined fighter and has a much better chin to boot, there's no way in hell Toney is stopping him.

Hopkins Wasn't More TALENTED than Nunn Though...

If REED Isn't Mistaken, Nunn was TALLER, RANGIER, More ATHLETIC & a SOUTHPAW...Totally agREED Toney NEVER Stops Hopkins, or Anything Close, but he'd Be Able to GET to Bernard, Offensively...& if Toney Could LURE Bernard Into LEADING, he'd Get the BETTER of the Exchanges...

NEITHER Man was a Big Banger, but REED Thinks Toney had More HURTFUL/KO Potential in his Shots, than Bernard Did...

CLOSE Fight Either Way...REED Could Literally See These Guys Meeting 20 Times & Winning 10 APIECE, Depending on the Judges & 1 or 2 Rounds...

Toney managed to get lots of fighters to trade with him..even a shameless runner like Nunn..i have no doubt that Hops would be no exception

I don't think it would the case here. Even when Hopkins leads he's very economical. Typically more feints and head down lunges from angles than punches. The more punches, the more countering opportunities. Because Bernard doesn't throw very many he'd kind of starve Toney in that regard.

    whiskey knows.

Hopkins is a counter puncher's worst nightmare, he'd win.
