    Exactly!

None of this "it was pretty good ... 9/10" shite

    I hate stupid rules

    The King Of Kong 7.5/10

An entertaining docu-drama about various nerdy dudes competing earnestly for the highest score ever on a Donkey Kong game (the actual arcade version from the early 80s) ... Definite good guy/bad guy dynamic. Includes a memorable scene featuring one of the bad guy's most pathetic, dorky sycophants doing all he can to sabotage the good guy upstart, essentially pwning himself for all time as one of the most transparent, passively churlish, uber-nerds ever recorded on film... Truly odd, awkward, dorky people who take this shit as serious as cancer... I've heard that there are some inaccuracies on this, but I don't care enough about the subject to be concerned... Definitely enjoyable for a casual viewer with no attachment to arcades.

I liked it. But too many of the character dynamics/interactions felt unrealistic. I'm not sure if it was the script or the acting or both. Characters kept going from polite to aggressive, belligerent to submissive etc at the drop of a hat.

I have never thought that to be the case, personally

seems to accurately reflect the tension of a jury deliberation between strangers and the social norms of the era:dunno:

    same

it's tense, profound, never lags, the cast is fantastic... incredible film

though not quite incredible, another good one is

    The King Of Kong 7.5/10

Good film, great for its time. I stand by my criticism tho. Acting improved allot by the 70s.

Hard to find many movies in any era with that kind of cast, all terrific actors.

just a different style, really... those guys were old school, not method actors

the guys in that film who survived long enough were all viable actors into the 1970s as well... I think people's ways of speaking to strangers differed more than the acting... the film is a reflection of that

    French Connection 2: 4/10

Amazing performance by Hackman though. I think its the best performance i've ever seen him give, it was absolutely 10/10. The rest of the film didn't work so well though.

    agREED

He chewed the scenery in that one, gave it everything he had, but you can't do anything with such a hackneyed script... Amazingly small-minded, formulaic sequel to a minimalist masterpiece

4/10 might be a little harsh. I did enjoy it (mainly due to Hackman), but yeah the script didn't really carry me along.

yeah... it's not "Ishtar" or something, it's watchable, but it's not anything you'd call a classic

It seems Ishtar is one of those films that's used as kind of a barometer for crappiness. I haven't seen it and don't even know what it's about. How bad is it?

I watched the first hour of it once and it was pretty goddamned terrible... it was like one of those Bob Hope/Bing Crosby adventure movies from the 40s except neither Beatty nor Hoffman made convincing slapstick/song and dance guys... It's kind of uncomfortable to watch:lol:

    'Last Embrace'

Late '70s thriller...Roy Scheider (playing his usual jumpy, worried self)....kind of average but has a great Janet Margolin's hooker-fucks-and-drowns-mobster kill-scene:

Schieder was a terrific actor. Always liked him

I wonder if he would have liked...

I watched a movie on TV over the weekend called Rocky. It was an older movie from the 70's, not sure if you guys have heard of it. It was really good, especially if you like boxing.

I think I've seen it. Is that the one where the 30+ year-old clubfighter from Philly falls in love with the ugly girl who works at the neighborhood pet store, and she inspires him into taking steroids and becoming a 40+ year-old Heavyweight Champion of the World, who battles a scientifically engineered Russian cyborg who kills black guys for a living?

A lot of that didn't happen in the movie, but they're good ideas if they ever decide to make a sequel.

It would make a great mini-series...............oh wait, maybe even a Broadway Play...with singing, and dancing, and you could have a boxing ring floating over the audience during the climactic fight scene.

Nah, nobody would ever buy that. :nono:
