With a mere 35.5% decline Captain America: The Winter Soldier continued its reign at the top of the box office for the third weekend in a row. The Marvel/Disney Studio comicbook action epic pocketed another $26.6 million for a domestic total of $201.5 million which is more than the previous film grossed and it will beat Thor: The Dark World total gross in a couple of days. Worldwide the Marvel film has grossed so far $586.6 million and is poised to end its run to close to $700 million...not bad for the one character in The Avengers movie many pundits were tagging as the weak link of the bunch. Failing again to take the 1st spot, but still showing impressive holding power, the animated sequel Rio 2 added $22.5 million to its arks for a two week total of $75 million. Besting all predictions, the surprise of the week turned out to be the Faith based low budget film Heaven is For Real which claimed the third spot with an impressive $21.5 million from Friday through Sunday. The film got good reviews and benefitted from the Easter holiday as its theme appealed to Christian audiences who are craving for these type of films. The $12 million budget Sony TriStar film starring Gregg Kinnear outperformed the debuts of the expensive Johnny Depp scifi thriller Transcendence which bombed in the fourth spot with $11.1 million and the comedy sequel A Haunted House 2 which landed in the fifth place with $9.1 million. While the horror comedy had a low budget of $4 million and $9 million debut is solid for its budget, the fact is that this sequel underperformed in comparison with the first film debut of $18.1 million with an even lower budget of $2.5 million. Its predecessor took a dive in its second week and finished its run with $40 million. Expect this one to follow a similar pattern and finish its run with a little over $20 million gross. Rounding up the remaining top ten, Draft Day took the sixth spot with $5.9 million; Divergence continues holding well with $5.7 million and $133 million domestic grosses. The film is slowly opening overseas and has made $75 in the foreign market. It still needs to open in the big markets of China, Japan & Russia where it can elevate its numbers to blockbuster status. Oculus stumbles from #3 last week to #8 with $5.2 million for a total so far of $21 million. Noah sinks to the 9th spot with $5 million. The Aranofsky bible apocrypha film has grossed $93 million domestically in four weeks which are disappointing numbers for its studio. Fortunately, the film is performing much better overseas with $197 million and counting. And in the 10th spot God's Not Dead took $4.8 million for a five weeks total of $48 million. The Christian film will most likely finish its theatrical run with $58-$60 million gross. And finally, the Disney Nature production Bears couldn't crack the top ten with $4.7 million, which is the lowest debut for a Disney Nature documentary.

Depp is no longer a major star, UNLESS he plays Jack Sparrow. That's pretty apparent.

The Amazing Spiderman 2 opened early internationally to the tune of $47 million. This might hurt the ongoing ticket sales of Captain America The Winter Soldier in those markets. The new Spidey sequel doesn't open in USA until May 2.

    UPDATE/REVISION:

Final numbers were tallied on Monday and the list had some changes:
    1. Captain America remains at the top with $25.5 million
    2. Heaven is for Real won the second spot, not Rio 2, with $22.5 million
    3. Rio 2 moved to the third spot with $22.1 million
    4. Transcendence made a little less that it was thought at first with $10.8 million
    5. A Haunted House also made less than estimated with $8.8 million

and Bears barely defeated God's Not Dead with $4.7 million since the Christian film took only $4.6 million and exiting the top ten list.
