Ive never seen the movie, but the the first episode of the TV series was great. Billy Bob Thornton is awesome. Any one else catch this?

Sure, there may be elements because it’s all set in the same place, but it’s not just a rehashing of the same old tale. IT PLACES THE FILM IN A TIMELINE Now, instead of being a standalone feature, the film Fargo will actually just be one story in a larger series of stories told in and around that same environment. Think of it like a comic book universe — only instead of fancy action heroes in spiffy, CGI’d magic, there’s Martin Freeman sitting on a dryer with a broken nose. Smart! IS IT STILL ABOUT MURDER, EH? Yes of course! The ties that do bind this show to its cinematic compatriot are the big ones: namely, murder. And the dark comedy, natch."
I've watched both episodes now. I asked you a the time because you said " first episode of the TV series was great" You reply with a copy and paste?
Ive never seen the movie, nor know any thing about it. So Im not sure if the TV series references the movie, its characters or when the events are set. Thats why I replied with the copy paste?
It was a fantastic series, one of the best of the last year. I highly recommend it. Really had nothing to do with the movie, just the same style of regional characterization and themes............and it was a crime story. The visual style was actually a big step up from the movie, in a cinematic sense. Got better as the series went along.
I just saw the first season. It's really good. Similar to the movie and some of the other Coen Brother movies, it's got dark humor, violence, Billy Bob Thornton is sort of that evil "force of nature" character that Tex Cobb played in Raising Arizona and Javier Bardem did in No Country for Old Men, and the Lester Nygaard (Martin Freeman) character is similar to the Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) character. There's an obvious reference to the movie a few episodes in.
