Ref stopped counting at 4 or 5, don't see anyway Groves would have beaten that count based on the way he got up with spaghetti legs.
when you act like youve just been shot, eyes closed and immobile for a good 5-6 seconds, it's hard to blame the ref for stopping the fight
I think it looked worse initially because Groves jumped up abnormally fast as a natural reaction to protest the stoppage but he would've just fell over and got stopped anyway. He had no legs.
Groves was still wobbling in the corner after the fight was over. He was done but it looks bad that he didn't get a count.
Agreed. Given the controversy of the first fight, at least give him the decency of a count, even though he was in no shape to continue.
No I didn't. I blamed him for waving it off as he did. He should have just stopped it and left Groves there so we don't have to listen to BS about how he was robbed.
He should have continued counting, allowed Groves to continue if he beat the 10 count, and subsequently allowed us to witness Groves being knocked out in even more brutal fashion. Like a pink eared kitten holding a nutcracker being savaged by a Komodo Dragon.
No he doesn't. British chins are usually pretty good. Eubank, Collins, Calzaghe, Hatton, Frock. Some prominent British fighters, all had good chins. In fact, Eubank and Calzaghe had excellent, top tier chins.
You left out McCullough, who in 36 rounds versus Daniel Zaragoza, Erik Morales and Naseem Hamed visited the canvas the sum total of ZERO times.
Didn't say that they didnt. It's just the stereotype that Brits have suspect chins. It certainly isn't always true. But in the case of Groves, It is. It's not as bad as Khan's though.
Shit, I forgot about little Wayne, and that he is in fact British. But yeah, this stereotypical British chin business is bollocks. The elite British fighters are usually tough. Only glass chinned ones that spring to mind are Benn and that big benny Lewis.
To be honest I didn't even know that was a stereotype. Must be a 'Murican thing. For me, the stereotype is British fighters are often overhyped and a bit scrubby, but like I said the elite ones can generally take a punch. I forgot about Khan of course, maybe that's what's giving Brits a bad name these days ::
Khan and the seemingly immovable myth that Lewis had a "Bad Chin". He had a so-so chin. I am not sure Benn had a glass jaw, he was, like most legitimate bangers, a bit suspect but not necessarily glass. Khan is of course being sued by Waterford Crystal for patent infringement.
Agreed, I wouldn't go so far as to say Benn had a glass chin, just a not very good one. A proper glass chin is Khan.
Well, I had a good gander around boxrec and decided that Benn and Eubanks would beat Groves. Something to do with beating better or something. MTF
