Not true at all, nobody outside hardcore boxing circles in Britain knew who the fuck Froch was before the Bute fight. That's because he was with Mick Hennessy who couldn't promote food to the starving. The credit goes to Eddie Hearn who might just be the best promoter in the sport today, he managed to get Froch to crossover to the mainstream. If Froch fought Ward every day of the year he'd go 0-365, everyone who knows anything about boxing is aware of that, but so what? Ward had the chance to get in on it but turned it down because he wants to stay in Oakland. That's fine, he's the man, he can do what he wants. It's just he has no right to complain when George Groves makes more money for this fight than Ward did in his last fight. Ward couldn't sell out his own living room, if he wants the money it's over here. Also, the reason it appealed to the casual fan is because the first fight was so good and had an inconclusive ending, people just wanted to see a good fight.
Agreed. Everyone knows Ward is the best 168 pounder, what's the point in repeating it at random intervals, for no apparent reason? It's just stating the obvious.
Exactly. Find me one person on here who has said Froch is better than Ward, we're boxing fans, we know the deal. It doesn't mean you can't have fun fights or events which don't involve poor widdle Andre
This fight seems to be have been huge here, every second conversation i overhear between dudes on trains/the street seems to be them talking about 'the fight'.
BTW - did any of you dudes catch the bit with Paulie giving his pre-fight thoughts between the De Gale & Froch fights? When he stopped speaking he just locked into an intense, awkward stare, swaying back and forth, smiling with his head cocked to one side like an 8 year old boy getting compliments from his older sister's hot friend or something. It was, like, really funny.
Wow, the judges had it close. One had it to groves by three(!) and the other only had Froch by one. Admittedly i was drunk but i thought Froch was well on top.
Groves needs to rebuild his confidence. They should put him in with a plucky journeyman who can give him some work but has no chance at winning. Someone like DeGale, maybe
Groves had his moment in the sun, and like most gingers he couldn't handle it. His time is over, it's now CHUNKY O'CLOCK
No matter who loses the Martinez/Cotto fight, they can at least take heart in the fact that there's this Chunky guy out there they can whup
Ward would have never in a million fucking years have STRUGGLED with Groves, nevermind lost to him. DeGale ain't shit.
If Groves were an experienced vet, and DeGale was green, that would have some validity. They were BOTH green, and Chunky lost. I don't know how far DeGale can go, but I do know he's future doesn't have top 5 P4P written on it. Like I said before, less talented version of Dirrell. Dirrell was faster, and more powerful.
When the Hell did I say that? I said he can't beat Andre fuckin Ward! You're acting like I said he can't beat Omar Sheika.
Some guys peak before others. I'll reserve judgment until he fights somebody good. It feels like you and me have conversations like this quite often You:I'm sure! Me: I'm not sure, need more evidence!
Right. Hopkins drew and arguably lost against some fool named Segundo Mercado when Hopkins wasn't in his prime. Ergo, Hopkins is shit.
