That's irrelevant though. He's the real middleweight champion of the world, if he keeps that title, of course it's his duty to fight the consensus #1 guy in the division.

Of course he'll probably just move back down to 154, but should he stay at 160, as the champion it's absolutely his duty to fight the best guy in the division.

The title 'Middleweight Champion of the world' does that for him though. That's why it exists.

The Problem is, Some Around Here are Placing Messageboard PRESSURE on Cotto to Face GGG, as if Cotto, or Anybody Else OWES GGG Something...

    Fuck That...

If GGG's Tired of Being "Ducked", Take SHORT Money & Fight Ward @ 168...Again, Ward WOULDN'T Hesitate to Jump on that Bout...The Idea that "Nobody" Wants to Face GGG is INCORRECT...Ward Takes that Bout in a Heartbeat...

Ward is Really a NO LOSE Situation for GGG; If he Gets Beat, he was the UNDERDOG Anyways...If he's COMPETITIVE, he's Now HAD that BIG Fight & has LEGITIMATE Bargaining Power & Leverage, for Future Fight Negotiations...

& if he UPSET Ward???...A STAR is Born...Where's the DOWNSIDE???...Ward's NOT Gonna KO GGG & Dude has Enough POP & SKILL To Keep Ward Relatively HONEST...

Title's Simply AREN'T as Important Anymore, Brother Hut...

Do You HONESTLY Think Cotto Took this Fight w/Illusions of Grandeur in Regards to Winning & then DEFENDING the 160lb Title for a Meaningful Stretch of Time???...Despite his Newly Acquired Belt, Miguel Cotto IS NOT a Middleweight...Not Even Close...

He would also be staying at 160 and fighting GGG next about 4 months later.

Yeah but Dana White might have given him a gift certificate to Red Lobster afterward for performance of the night or something.

Andre Ward couldn't draw a whore to a dick sucking contest. GGG has a much larger fan base, and would be the one responsible for putting more asses in seats should he and Ward fight.

Why isn't it? Ward has NO FAN BASE whatsoever! Ward-Froch should have been a HUGE fight. It wasn't. Cause nobody gives a shit about Ward, despite the fact that he's arguably the best fighter in the world. The vast majority of fans in AC that night were Brits who flew in for Frochy.

People could give a fuck less about Andre Ward.

HE is a good draw on the west coast. But what kind of Fan Base does GGG have? Did i somehow miss him selling out huge arenas throughout this country?

Yeah, take shit money against the one guy in the neighbouring weight divisions who would probably beat you, who also happens to be a guy no one gives a fuck about

I think REED just hates Gaybox for some weird reason.

Yes and no. Titles have become way more meaningless than they used to, but at the same time, it was obviously important enough to Cotto to gun for this middleweight title, and want to risk facing a bigger, hard punching guy to win it. And being that he is the lineal middleweight champion, on paper that puts him as the #1 guy in the division, and the true champion who should take on all comers.

Of course not, but on paper it's exactly what the true, lineal champion should do. That's the whole point of being a champion.

we shall see. That being said, there is no clear consensus that he currently is a bigger draw.

Titles are just as important today as they were five years ago as they were ten years ago as they were 20 years ago.

Whenever anyone says "x doesn't owe y a fight" that is almost always because the speaker likes x and knows that x would probably lose to y.
