Pac no longer has the foot speed to dart in and out on Canelo. 4-5 years ago he could have, but not now. A young, athletic guy like Andrade would be a worse matchup for Canelo than a faded Pac.
Odh may have run last few rounds against Tito but he lara ran for essentially the whole fight. ODH was making a tactical decision to give away the final rounds and run Lara evidently planned on running the whole fight
I agree with your whole post, Canelo hasn't changed for years now. He is what he is, he's a fighter who developed early and got into the limelight early. He's never going to be better than he is now. As for the second part, that's very true. He's a decent fighter, but hideously overhyped and protected. And yeah you're right, he does have a sort of sly arrogance about him, which is far worse than overt arrogance - as at least over the top arrogance can be amusing.
Yup. I don't know why people think just because a guy is young, that he's still developing. Due to the style of certain guys, they just are what they are. I don't see Canelo's style being one built for longevity.
The thing is, if a guy's fight plan is based on technical finesse, then he probably won't become any better when the years go by (guys like this can make a long career however). Speedsters usually don't get better either, instead they are the first to fade when they lose their legs and reflexes. Physically talented guys however can get better as the years go by, when they learn to use their tools. Cutting off the ring, creating a battle plan that works best, accuracy of punching etc are skills that can be learned in the gym. Lennox peaked when he was 35 or so, Pac became much more versatile during the years etc. So I agree age number isn't what's important but rather the style of the fighter. Alvarez to me is a guy who can still learn a lot, whether or not that is enough to make him better (and compensate those slow feet) that remains to be seen
You have to assume alvarez has real power too. Hard to imagine lara would've run the 5whole time if he wasn't worried about alvarez ' s power.
He has average power. He's certainly not a puncher. Cotto will thump him if that fight gets made. So would Pacquiao, even at 154, though it obviously pains Neil to admit it :kidcool:
dont see it. pacquiao would never even fight the guy at 154lbs. little pacquiao was hurt to the body by margarito. he'd be in trouble against alvarez, who while limited, managed to land plenty of hard body shots against lara.
Neil, man, Canelo just absolutely sucks compared to Pacquiao. Much like Pacquiao Vs Plasterito or Floyd Vs Canelo, the difference in ability is far bigger than the difference in size. Pacquiao would clown Canelo and he'd be tentative all night long. It would be as 1 sided as the Floyd fight. He's too tentative anyway, just imagine what he'll be like when he starts getting hit with shots he doesn't see coming, over and over again. Canelo is nothing really. He's not even that big, he just weighs a lot, because of his fat little legs. Plasterito is bigger and stronger. If nothing else, Plasterito was good at throwing (and absorbing) shit loads of punches, and even his output dropped dramatically in the face of little Manny's speed and accuracy. There's almost no fighter on earth that's going to keep coming and throwing if they're consistently getting belted with shots they don't see. And I just don't think Canelo hits hard enough or Pacquiao to be that worried about taking the odd shot.
margarito had already had the shit knocked out of him against mosley. he wasnt the same. i think alvarez is ordinary but he wouldve fucked up that version of margarito who was never good at 154lbs anyhow. a better question is, at this point, do you think pacquiao would actually fight a 23 year old guy who has never taken a severe ass whipping and enters the ring at 170lbs?
I think Canelo hits hard enough to hurt Pacquiao. He just doesn't punch often enough and he's too slow to catch Pac consistently.
I had it on hd. If I knew Lara was going to run like that I would have streamed it. I don't pay my hard earned money on fighters that run marathons.
Most said the same about Canelo fighting Lara. Canelo can fight Cotto that's a mega fight. Lara can go back to the amatuers.
7-5 Canelo. He took over the second part of the fight. I don't get the hate Canelo gets. He had every reason not to take this fight and he took it because Lara was perceived as his biggest challenge yet he there's still people calling him overhyped. He even tried to fight Cotto but they opted for Martinez instead. Nobody is claiming he is the next Duran but the kid is 23 and he already fought Trout, Mayweather and Lara and won 2/3. He seems willing to make the big fight happen and could be in good fights in the future. I want to see Canelo vs Cotto.
For a forum that hates Tito, yall sure do love to praise that Ginger for following Lara around like a mindless idiot. Canelo couldn't cut off a shirt tag.
That amateur deserved to win last night. So what does that make Canelo? Anyhow, we'll just have to agree to disagree. Canelo vs Cotto? Not sure Miguel at this point can handle Canelo's power. But it'll be interesting.
Very few fighters are great at cutting off the ring or looking good against negative fighters like Lara. Yet he just beat his biggest percieved threat stylewise at 154. His fight with Cotto is 50/50 and he would destroy Thurman, Porter or anyone coming up to 154. He isn't great but he's certainly not crap like you've been saying. You just don't like him.
REED Wouldn't Consider Canelo a "Puncher", Necessarily, but he's MORE of 1 than You Give him Credit For Being... Canelo's HEAVY Handed & Has Buzzed/Stung/Hurt/Dropped/KO'ed Guys w/Various Punches, Left AND Right Handed...He's Definitely Not DEVOID of Punching Power... Cotto's Actually a PERFECT Litmus Test to Gauge the DEGREE of Canelo's Worth as a Puncher...Cotto's AVAILABLE to Be Hit... REED Ain't Making Any Canelo-Cotto Predictions as of Yet, but Cotto WILL Offer Opportunities to Illustrate How HARD Alvarez Really Cracks... REED:hammert:
agREED... In NO Way Does REED Consider Canelo Alvarez To Be as DEVELOPED as he'll Eventually Be...Not Saying he's Going to DRASTICALLY Improve @ Some Point, but he WILL Get Better... Dude is Only 23-24 Years of Age & Has YET to Endure a SEVERE Asswhipping or Physically TAXING, Prime SHORTENING Loss... REED:hammert:
Valid Point... if, If, IF Pac-Canelo Ever Happened, Rest Assured Freddie Roach Would Demand a CATCHWEIGHT of 52' or LOWER...Roach Might Also Appeal for a Day of the Fight Weigh In &/or Place a LIMIT on How Much Weight Canelo Could Regain... No Way in Hell Does Pac Face Canelo @ '54, Bang On... REED:nono:
He won't necessarily have the short shelf life of Vargas, but like Vargas it seems very clear he developed early and is peaking early. He's in his prime now, I'll be amazed if he gets any better or changes much in any way.
Maybe. I just don't like Canelo and don't think he's very good. He has solid enough power, I agree with that, but he's certainly no puncher. And yeah, Cotto will certainly be a good litmus test for whether he can punch or not. If he can't put a dent in Cotto, people need to stop acting like he's any kind of puncher at all.
agREED... Cotto's Been Buzzed/Stung/Hurt/Dropped/Bloodied AND KO'ed...If Canelo is UNABLE to Compromise Cotto in Any of Those Ways, We'll Have a DEFINITIVE Answer on the State of his Punching Power... REED:hammert:
Vargas IMO is a guy who could have been even better, had he gathered a bit more seasoning. He made a respectable career this way too, but he was never the same after the Tito fight
