So is Khedira going to Arsenal? That would be a great signing.

No idea and I don't really care. It would indeed be a great signing for Arsenal though.

The big money clubs will get who they want.

'Former Celtic financial saviour Fergus McCann splits with his wife of 20 years

FERGUS McCann, the saviour of Celtic, has split from his wife after almost 20 years of marriage.

McCann, 73, married Elspeth Campbell in Ayrshire in 1995, a year after arriving from Canada to take the club from financial chaos to a sound cash footing.

The couple moved to the US in 1999 after he sold his shares in Celtic but have now parted on an "amicable" basis.

In a statement, the McCanns said their lives had "moved in different directions" and that they felt it best to pursue separate lives.

The couple have three children, Ishbel, 18, Juliet, 17, and Malcolm, 15.

Fergus McCann, an expatriate Scot living in Canada, amassed a fortune from a golf holiday business based in Montreal and Phoenix, Arizona.

He came to the rescue of Celtic in 1994 when the club was on the brink of ruin.

McCann acted as guarantor for Celtic's £7million debt, provided additional financing and floated the club as a public limited company on the Stock Exchange.

McCann, who now focusses on his charitable foundation, remains a supporter of Celtic. Last month he wrote to lapsed season ticket holders asking them to renew their subscritions.'

Wages seem to be the stumbling block. As long as they sign a decent defensive mid Ill be happy.

Fergus McCann being booed when he unfurled the league flag was definitely the most ashamed I've been in a Celtic end.

(I was rather proud when all those nutters kept running on and trying to malky Hugh Dallas.)

First round of Europa League qualifying.

The Republic of Ireland had three clubs in it. Sligo Rovers, Dundalk, and Derry City(from N.Ireland but play in the Irish league.) They went 6-0 and outscored their oppponents 18 goals to 1.

Wales had three clubs in it. Aberystwyth Town, Bangor City, and Airbus UK Broughton. They went 0-1-5 and were outscored 20 goals to 2. All three Welsh clubs were sent packing.

Northern Ireland advances two clubs (Linfield and Crusaders) and one eliminated (Glanavon) by an Icelandic Club.

Scotland had one club, Aberdeen, who advanced with 8 goals to 0 aggregate over Daugava Riga of Latvia.

ok now that the World Cup is over, I have a question. Based on the lack of showing by England, can it be said that the EPL is an overrated league or simply the supposed top level English players are overrated?

I'm curious what the thoughts are.

You presume that English clubs are made up of English players.

Seven years ago or so the EPL [spew] was probably the strongest league in Europe. But European league strength is cyclical and the Spanish league and the German league got stronger and took over. The gap is pretty big now - Chelsea's win in 2012 was a result of ridiculous good fortune and incredible rearguard defending and masked the slide - and now the EPL is the third best league at best. English players are well behind the pace now - the proven winners at club level (Scholes, Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Cole etc) are finished and there is very little coming through to replace them because the EPL [spew] has spent too much time throwing money at foreign imports and nothing at player development.

IMO, it will be at least five years before the EPL [spew] regains an equal footing, at least, but it will because it always comes back and has it's day.

I think Liverpool will do well in the CL this season (if they can find a decent replacement for Suarez), and they also have some good young English players like Sterling who is a product of the QPR academy so is obviously fucking brilliant

This article speaks to my earlier question.

Sanchez is a good signing for Arsenal and a fine player, but he is also what the Premier League tends to attract these days: the level just below the very top. Ultimately, Cristiano Ronaldo left, as did Suarez, as did Robben, even Gareth Bale. Cesc Fabregas is back but only because his glorious return to Barcelona did not quite go as planned. That doesn’t make our domestic football bad: just not as impressive as it is cracked up to be.

The top top players always end up at Barca and Madrid but they are cheating state funded clubs. I have respect for the Bundesliga.

The English league is probably the most competitive league, which in itself is a fantastic thing to witness.

I wouldn't think Sanchez is "the level just below the very top", unless the very top level comprises a handful of players. Leaving aside a game changer like Ronaldo or Messi, sometimes Suarez and Robben, I would put Sanchez in the same company as Bale et al. when he's on song.

Which, considering that fifteen of the teams don't have any chance of winning or even make any attempt to win it, is a fucking shocking indictment on modern football.

QPR were 13 minutes away from becoming League Champions in the 70's, we'll never come that close again without a billion-pound investment

I know this isn't a direct answer to the question but I wanted to add it. I find the Premier League a joy to watch. I've been watching for ten years now. And all of English football is intriguing.. The two Cup competitions. The teams that play in Europe, etc. My favorite things about it are learning the histories of the clubs (as well as the cities they are from) and the relegation/promotion angle that you do not have in US sports. I also like following the League Cup and the FA Cup. I am not really big on arguing about individual players because it doesn't matter to me. I care about how teams do not players. I am the same way with US sports. I cheer for teams and against teams not for individuals. I don't really like the power structure at the top but it's part of the package. When I first started watching there was a solid "top 4." In that ten years, Spurs and Everton have finished top 4, Man City has won the league twice, and three of the traditional top 4 have finished lower than 4th. I'd like to see a little more balance in the future.

Man Utd baulking at 35M asking fee for Arturo Vidal...I'm a big fan of both Vidal and the his fellow Chilean Sanchez but leaving that aside, when you think of the garbage they've signed in and around that valuation, Vidal is good at that price IMO. In fact, Vidal would be an excellent fit for Arsenal with Flamini not likely to last much longer...

I agree and find it quite surprising. I don't know if that I would call 35M a "bargain" but it's not overpriced either. Just proper value. Curious timing for United to be frugal after just signing huge deals with Chevrolet and Adidas.

Fucking hold EVERYTHING - Newcastle are signing players for cash! Cabella and De Jong have now been joined by that Dutch full back Janmaat for around £5m. Three actual signings! Money spent! How will Britain's fifth richest man (est. worth £5billion) cope with having spent fully fourteen million pounds this summer? He must be searching down the back of the settee for pound coins as we speak.

Or, alternatively, Debuchy is off to Arsenal for somewhere in the region of £14m. Player trading, not squad building. It's the Ashley way.

    When does EPL start?

I will follow a team even though I think the league is weaker than La Liga just because it is in English?

Is Pogba indeed coming to Chelsea because I will support them if this is the case
