Due to Terry's chin, does Canelo have a chance? Or is the difference in speed and skill too big for Terry's chin to matter?
I would get in Doc Brown's Delorean and bring Terry Norris with me to 2014 for this fight to happen if I could... That's how much I'd enjoy seeing Norris kick Canelo's sorry ass. Norris is too fast and skillful. He'd either stop Canelo late or win via shut out UD once Canelo goes int survival mode to avoid more punishment.
I'm not even sure the fact that Canelo is really a Light Heavyweight even matters in this... the gulf in class is vast
Yeah, I mean anybody with even moderate power has a chance against Norris, but I can just as easily see him overwhelmed by the speed of Norris and intimidated by the power on those fast punches
Crapnelo isn't a light heavy just because he comes into the ring at 170. He's really just a stocky ass junior middle, who has likely grown into a middleweight. He'd be FAR too small to compete above 160 though. Interesting fact, when Norris fought Joe Gatti, the HBO team stated that Gatti was re-weighed at 170. Didn't stop Norris from blasting him within a round.
Canelo isn't even close to being a lightheavy really. He just carries excess weight that doesn't do much. He is a fat legged little junior middleweight. If he fought Norris I bet Norris would seem like the bigger, stronger guy. If Canelo does move to 160 you'll see what I mean. He'll be undersized and get shoved around.
GGG would beat Canelo so bad, the little bastard would be be carried out on a stretcher. The ring side doctor would whisper "Canelo, we're gonna carry you over to the hospital now to run some tests. Are you ready?", at which point the semi-conscious Ginger would say "I was born ready."
you guys are out of your minds... Canelo is enormous compared to Norris... He's never anything close to a Junior Middleweight if he doesn't have the luxury of day-before weigh ins
Ummmm, Norris fought in the 90's, not the 30's. He had 24-hr weigh-ins as well. You're out your mind if you think Canelo is a lightheavy, simply because he stuffs his face at Chipotle after weigh-ins.
Honestly I think all you guys who think Canelo is huge are out of your minds. He carries useless weight, that's it. You've seen the Floyd fight right? Floyd, a former 130 pounder, was STRONGER ffs. He got the better of Canelo even up close, backed Canelo up, and even manhandled him a bit. Canelo is a fat little 5'7 guy, and not particularly strong. He's not even close to this huge monster you guys make out at all. Norris would seem like the bigger, stronger guy, even if Canelo's fat little Ginger legs tipped the scales his way. Again, you'll see exactly what I mean if/when Canelo moves to 160. He'll look small, and get shoved around by naturally bigger men. Light heavy my arse :kidcool:
Drying out and gaining 15-20 pounds was about as common in Terry Norris's era as gaining zero pounds is in this era... you can't be serious with that crap Floyd didn't manhandle the guy at all, he simply made him gunshy with rapid fire punches and skills If he moves to 160 and fights guys who actually weigh 175 pounds, you mean? What that has to do with a guy like Norris who would weigh probably 156 at the most is beyond me Cdogg has a weight obsession? No, Boxing has one... Weight classes were introduced for a reason... The strategy of rehydrating caught on and became the norm for a reason... The reason?? Would you believe it? Size actually does matter! I know I was shocked, too Watch a Norris fight and then watch an Alvarez fight... If you don't notice Alvarez is clearly much bigger, you are blind as a bat
What in the living FUCK are you talking about? Go watch Norris vs Joe Gatti. They commentators stated that Gatti came into the ring weighing 170. I don't know exactly which year HBO implemented the idea of "unofficial weights", but I know it was in the 90's, and the numbers even then were pretty consistent with what they are today. Guys generally putting on between 8-10 pounds by fight night. Gaining 20 pounds by fight time not is not the NORM, even today. It happens with some guys, but in generally it's usually between 8-10 pounds, on average.
agREED on Canelo's CORE Strength Leaving A LOT to Be Desired in the Floyd Fight...Having Said That, Canelo's a Very THICK Jr. Middleweight... Not Tall, Obviously, & w/Thick LEGS, as You've Stated...But Canelo is Also BROAD Shouldered, has a WIDE Torso & THICK Arms...Short ISN'T the Same as SMALL...Canelo's SHORT, but "That Motherfucker AIN'T Small"... REED:nono:
Agreed with Xplosive, on average I don't think much has changed since the 90's, as far as weight gaining. And let's not forget too, weight classes are what you can get DOWN to, not how much you put on. A light heavy in any era can only get down to 175. Canelo can get down to 152. A light heavy is a naturally much bigger guy. Can you imagine Canelo Vs Foster? :laugh11: He'd look like a fucking midget, and would get steamrolled inside a round. We're talking about a guy who fought Matthew Hatton at 154, didn't look significantly bigger, and couldn't put a dent in him. This nonsense about him being a light heavy needs to stop. Look at Oscar for example. When he boiled down to 130 and 135, he looked fucking huge, and slapped his opponents around like children. If Canelo was a light heavy, he'd be doing the same thing to welters and junior middles. Yes they are called weight classes and they exist for a reason, but that's because overall it's the fairest way of gauging size. It doesn't mean it's the only component of size. Danny Williams outweighed Vitali, who would you say was the bigger guy in that fight? REED, sure he's fairly thick, but overall not that fucking thick for his height and weight class. For example, if he moved up to middle, even someone like Hagler would dwarf him. Can you imagine him fighting Hopkins? It would be man Vs boy, Nard would manhandle him. And here he is against Floyd. Doesn't exactly look like a light heavyweight Vs a former 130 pounder does it? Sorry but Canelo just isn't a big guy, he just isn't. Look at him Vs any opponent, he's a JR Middle at best.
Floyd's in his LATE 30's & has Campaigned at '47 or Higher for Nearly a DECADE Now, Bro... Floyd's a GROWN Ass, FILLED OUT Older Guy, who Only Gains 5lbs (if That) After his Weigh-Ins...Canelo is a YOUNG MAN, Not Nearly as Filled Out as he WILL Be, Who Gains a CONSIDERABLE Amount of Weight, Post-Official Weigh-In... Canelo was DRAINED an Additional 2 Pounds in the Weigh-In Pic you Posted & the Action Shots are Taken from DECEVING Angles...Do You Have a Full Body or Waist Up STAREDOWN Pic, from Fightnight???... That Would be a More ACCURATE Representation of the Size Difference btwn Canelo & Floyd...Dude COULD Be Hagler Thick, by the Time he's Pushing 30, Which is Half a DECADE from Now... REED:hammert:
REED, those shots aren't deceiving, I picked them because you can clearly see their arms and shoulders close to each other. There is almost no difference in the arms, and Floyd's shoulders are possibly a bit bigger. I agree Floyd is a proper welterweight now, despite the low weight gain by fight night. The point is, if Canelo was a light heavy, he'd fucking dwarf Floyd, a smallish welter who started his career at 130. Also REED, it's irrelevant how big Canelo may or may not be at age 30. The point is people are calling him huge and a light heavy right now, which is hogwash. Here is a full torso shot of the fight, and another side on shot of the weigh in. Just look at Canelo, he's so huge! You guys are being a bit conservative calling him a light heavy, he looks more like a cruiser to me ::
Again, the TOP Shot is Angled DECEIVINGLY...Floyd's ENTIRE BACK is Shown, While a PORTION of Canelo's Front Is...Nonetheless, Canelo's SHOULDERS, ARMS, FOREARMS & HEAD are Bigger than Floyd's... Your 2nd Pick is Canelo CONSIDERABLY DRAINED, Standing Next to Floyd who MIGHT have Gained 3lbs, After the Fact... REED:hammert:
I'd say their heads are the same size, if anything Floyd's shoulders are bigger, and there isn't much in the arms. Canelo has a wider torso (and probably a whider arsehole) and fatter legs. That's about it. And Canelo doesn't exactly look drained there does he? He looks fine, making that weight is clearly not a big struggle. He also doesn't look dramatically bigger in the fight. Not sure where on earth that extra weight goes tbh. Legs and arse I reckon. In the weigh in and even fight night, I was struck by how little size difference there was. Canelo's size is as overrated as his fighting ability. Even in his own weight class, Canelo would look undersized against the likes of Nando and Tito, and get beaten up.
First off... LOL at Joe Gatti Secondly... the fact the commentators thought it was notable enough to comment on only bolsters my point It was not the norm to dramatically rehydrate when Norris was in his prime years... It is the norm now... If a guy doesn't weigh at least 10 pounds more than the weight limit it is UNUSUAL
What you can get down to at a same-day weigh in vs a day-before weigh in with modern diuretics & dehydration techniques are two COMPLETELY different things. Floyd comes in at or around his weigh-in weight, Canelo puts on 20 lb after the weigh-in.
I dont think their is much of a size difference between Norris and Canelo. Norris would whopp him, Canelo only chance is the proverbial puncher chance
