Who's a better fighter: Ward or Rigo?

With Floyd fading, either one of these guys has an argument for being the best in the world. Who's better?

 

So far, Ward deserves to be ranked higher since he is clearly the more proven. However, if I had to pick the one who would more probably beat a great opponent, that would be Rigo. Ward IMO is in the class of Calzaghe, Toney and such, somewhere between very good and great. Rigo has the abilities to be an undisputed great

 

Gondo by a country mile.

 

Yeah, I pick the guy who scares his opponents AND himself into not throwing any punches, just by stare/feinting into their souls, while standing 18 inches out of punching range.

 

Seriously though, no one can look at Ward and think he's the best fighter in the world.

I know he's legit, and hard to beat, but he's not THAT fucking good. For my money, both Pacquiao and Floyd are still better than him, so is Gondo. I can't see him ever being P4P #1, there'll always be someone better than Ward.

 

Pac has no case for being better than Ward at THIS point.

Ward is SEVERAL levels better than Timmy the head.

P4P, Ward would do a number on the current version of Pac. No doubt in my mind.

And Ward would NOT struggle with a fighter as mediocre as Maidana.

Maybe it was a fluke. Maybe Floyd will beat the fuck outta Chino in September. But in May, he looked faded.

 

He did, but I think he'd still find a way to beat Ward.

Ward can't even punch, and I think that will prove significant when he ends up fighting a fellow P4Per.

I'd still pick this version of Pacquiao to beat Ward, he's just better.

I'd say Ward is a level above Timmy, not several. I think Timmy is a slightly better fighter than Frock, and Pacquiao dominated him twice in fights that were IMO more 1 sided than Ward Vs Frock.

One thing I shall say, Ward is better than Donaire.

 

Both are terribly boring.......Ward is currently taking some time off I guess....but he still has the better resume by A LOT....Rigon fuckwad has one good victory under his record...and thanks the gods that time is not on his side...

 

I don't believe for ONE SECOND that Bradley is a better fighter than Froch. He's not as good as Kessler either.

Tim Bradley WAS, is, and always will be an overrated fighter in terms of ability.

Ward is better than Bradley by a country mile. They're not anywhere NEAR close in class.

Bradley IMO would get his ass kicked by Shawn Porter, let alone a guy the class of Ward.

 

FOR THE RECORD, to answer my own question, yes I do believe Rigo is a better fighter than Ward, despite not being as accomplished.

The Cuban just has a lot more natural talent than Ward does.

And relative to his weight class, there's less threats to Rigo than Ward.

I still believe that Kov has a very good chance of upsetting Ward.

Whereas with Rigo, there's really nobody from 122-126 with a realistic chance of beating him right now. Perhaps Loma in a few years, but Loma gets picked apart if they fight RIGHT NOW.

 

I was disappointed by how scrubby and tepid Bradley was against Pacquiao, but the guy can fight. He's better than he looks, I think he'd beat Porter.

 

For the record I do think Ward is a very, very good fighter, but has now become overrated.

Even considering him for the P4P #1 spot is overrating him. He's like a poor man's Hopkins. There's just no way he's the best fighter in the world.

 

Tim is a good fighter, nothing more. He's better than that bum Khan, and he's also better than that clown Broner, for whatever that's worth, but he's never been elite IMO.

I think Porter would beat him. He'd be too strong for Tim. To beat Porter, I think you need to have the power to deter him. Bradley doesn't have that.

 

The talent pool in the sport today isn't what it was in the late 90's bro.

Fucking Canelo Alvarez is a top fighter today.......

Ward AT WORST is the third best fighter in the world.

 

P4P, I don't think Bradley would win ANY rounds off Ward.

It'd be a 12-0 white wash in Ward's favor. Ward would be in counter puncher's Heaven against Bradley, who will ALWAYS have sloppy technique.

Rigo for sure ... Outclassing donaire once is like outclassing Froch 9 times

 

Ward is better than Hopkins ever was.

I think Rigondeaux is better than Ward, but it's hard to be confident because Ward is so hard to beat. I rate them both above Floyd these days.

Put a prime Hopkins in there with Carl Froch, and B-Hop is right back in the pen for pre-meditated murder.

Prime Hopkins was better than Ward at literally EVERY facet of boxing.

Rigo is unquestionably better. Ward > Hopkins is just retarded, as are most of mikE's opinions.

 

Ward essentially fights like the post-2004 version of Hopkins.

He's never been able to put his hands together like a younger Hopkins could.

I referenced the Hopkins-Johnson fight in another thread. That version of Hopkins would put a serious ass whuppin on Ward.

ONLY part i disagree with is it being a 50-50 fight NOW. Hopkins would win 2 rounds MAX off Ward at this point. More than likely he gets shut out.

Agreed with the rest though. Ward is not Hopkins. No shame in that though. I think MOST of us would agree that Hopkins, Jones, and Floyd are the 3 best fighters of the last 20 years.

 

I think most of us would have Pac up there, replacing either Jones or Hops, unless you were talking about fighters around super-middleweight

 

Hopkins & Jones are no worse than on a level with Pacquiao, I'd say they're both better.
