Watching the weigh-ins now. Looking forward to the main event, and I think the Rumble-Little Nog fight is also a interesting match up. If Johnson treats Nogueira like he treated Phil Davis, he probably puts himself one win from a title shot.
Matt Brown missed weight. I think im going with Lawler for the win. Matt Brown takes too many shots and taking shots from Lawler is ridiculous. Im shocked lil nog took this fight and didnt get injured. That being said, im not sure who wins this one yet. I will pick someone soon.
I'm picking Lawler and Johnson to win. I'm hoping they'll both be great fights. I love Little Nog, but he's past his prime. Matt Brown has a fun fighting style, but I don't know if he can take too many body shots. Lawler won't fold like Erick Silva. It will be good to see Josh Thomson again. One of the local guys here in San Jose. I should really be at the event tomorrow. I'm just going to watch it with some friends on Fox. People complain about the watered down PPVs lately. This is an awesome card, PPV worthy but on free tv.
Yeah Brown is a tough dude but he was badly hurt by both Jordan Mein and Erik Silva. You have to think a killer like Lawler finishes him. That being said, Brown has never been knocked out in 30 fights so it should at least be interesting. Little Nog-Rumble is an interesting fight. Nog has very refined boxing and is a difficult guy to look good against. Unfortunately Nog doesn't have much firepower at this point and I think Johnson might retire him. I'll be pulling or Nog but I'm not holding out much hope.
My MMA picking ability generally leaves something to be desired, but I was fucking amazed when I saw most of you acting like this fight was hard to pick. I figured Johnson would destroy him easily, as quite simply both Nogs were done years ago.
Nog won his last fight against Rashad...I don't really see any different between this Nog and that one. He's basically the same tier of fighter, he will lose to the top guys and beat everyone else.
That surprises me a lot actually, I haven't seen the fight but I forgot he beat Rashad recently. Still, both Nogs have been looking frail and crap for years.
Rashad would have won that fight if he had used his wrestling. He spent most of the fight trying to box with Nogueira.
Another impressive display from Robbie Lawlor. Nog is old as hell but Rumble continues to look a beast at LHW
BTW I can't believe they refer to that fucking Cruickshank as a "highly touted prospect" :atu: He'a a scrub. Remember when he got KTFO by that lanky farm boy in TUF?
The transformation of Robbie Lawler has really been incredible to watch. This is the same guy knocked out by a Nick Diaz jab in his first stint in the UFC at 170 lbs. And then he bounced around in weight and got out grappled by a handful of guys at 185. But the current version of Lawler has great wrestling defense because he's at the right weight. And he is simply the most dangerous striker in the WW division. Tough guys like Rory, Brown and Ellenberger get completely taken out their game when Robby touched them. Additionally, since he's such a fluid and relaxed striker, he doesn't look like the same guy that used to gas late in fights. It would be a great story if he can beat Hendricks in the rematch and set up the billion dollar Lawler-Diaz.
He got caught by a relatively lucky knee while attempting a takedown. That happens. But James Vick, the guy that landed the knee, isn't too shabby. He's undefeated as a pro and looked spectacular choking out Ramsey Ninem in his last fight. But I do agree, almost every young fighter in the UFC is a "highly touted" prospect. Anyone else think Josh Thompson got robbed last night? Not like Whitaker-Ramirez robbed but like Whitaker-Chavez robbed.
Actually I thought it was a perfectly timed knee, even if it was meant to be a kick. And I didn't think Cruickshank looked any good before that, or since. No idea why they hyped this guy up. I do agree with Vick isn't too shabby. I can't remember wtf happened to him on the show, but I remember thinking he looked pretty good, even though he was supposed to be really raw etc. I had no idea the Nijem fight even happened, I'll check it out. Not surprised Josh got robbed, he always does for some reason.
yeah diaz doesnt derseve a title shot. Besides, his goal is to fight anderson. Diaz needs to go through several people for a shot. Woodley, Rory, Condit, Brown, Lawler, etc. He only signed a 3 fight deal.
Diaz could get a title shot if he beats Anderson. Especially if it's a rematch with Lawler. I'm a huge Diaz fan, but a prime Anderson Silva would outstrike him and make it look easy. Diaz might be able to overwhelm a 39 year old Anderson with volume and pressure over 5 rounds.
Yep. I didn't say Diaz deserves a rematch but it would sell. That's all I'm saying. The UFC would run non stop promos showing Diaz knocking Lawler senseless and it would sell,
Diaz is 170 Anderson is 185. And i dont think Anderson comes back at 185 either. I dont think beating anderson should give him a title shot at 170. There are guys ahead of him.
Like That Matters???... UFC is a Business & Like it or Not, Nick Diaz is Undeniably GOOD for Business... By that Same Token, if Fighter's like Gina Carano &/or Cyborg Wanted to Go DIRECTLY to a Fight w/Ronda Rousey, UFC Would Obviously Accommodate Them... They're GOOD for Business... REED:kidcool:
Agreed, I can't believe these guys are even discussing this and arguing whether Diaz deserves a shot. What has Diaz done to earn a title shot? Simply by being Nick Diaz. He gets a lot of attention, and people will want to watch him, especially in a Lawler rematch or any other interesting fight. So yeah, he'll jump right up to title shot contention much quicker than most people, after just 1 win I imagine.
Well, Diaz's first fight is rumored to be against Anderson Silva, so, so much for getting that one win. TFK
That's what is so funny. Guys like Rory or Lombard are more deserving but neither of them is the draw that Nick Diaz is. If they held Lawler-Diaz 2 in San Jose next week, they might burn the town down trying to sell tickets fast enough. Throw Nate, Ronda or Melendez on the card and they'd need to build a bigger arena.
But that won't happen because nick ain't next in line. Lawler is fighting Hendrix next. And that's it.
I don't think anyone is suggesting that Diaz fights for the title before a Lawler-Hendricks rematch. But if Robby wins and Nick doesn't lose in the meantime, I wouldn't bet against Diaz being Lawler's first defense. And if Nick wins a fight, any fight, in the meantime and calls Lawler out, it's as good as a done deal.
