Gatti, you see what happens when you play two Serbians together in the back line?

Man City found out the hard way!

Aye, a few Arsenal players have made ma FF teams. Ah havenae felt this positive aboot Arsenal since the Dennis Bergkamp wiz playing. Mind Ye - Arsenall started off wi' a bang last season befoor fizzling oot. We shall see whit happens as it's a long wee tae go.

Do Ye ken why this has kicked off so early, laddie i.e. whit's going on wi' the League Cup?

Slice n' Dice - hoo is yer trip in North America going? Are Ye gonnae see any MLS games? There wiz a big debate on the Scoattish forums where the SPL and MLS were compared and even the majority o' Scots had tae admit the MLS wiz better, like.

    and finally...

Salaco - as part o' ma 'building bridges across the water', Ah recently bought a Donegal Tweed Jacket from Kevin and Howlin (o' Dublin) jacket tae match ma polished, broon brogues. It's a bonny bit o' tailoring... SUITS YOU, Jimmy!

Legia have filed a formal appeal of the UEFA decision

Van Dijk rumored to be on the move

Celtic is essentially about as good as Motherwell or Aberdeen right now... all of our best players are either gone or on the way out the door

Maribor has a good chance against us

That's about the time they always start the League Cup. The Prem clubs don't get in until late August and any club involved in Europe doesn't play until September. I like the League Cup. No ties, no replays. And in the first round, northern clubs play each other and southern clubs play each other.

Super cup, Madrid vs Sevilla not especially competitive tonight so far. Leaving aside his transfer fee, Bale has surprised me in the past year by really stepping up to the challenge, especially given a dominant personality like Ronaldo who pretty much demands that the final ball is played towards him...Rodriguez has looked a bit overawed tonight, Kroos fitting in well I thought

He has never looked the same since the injury. In saying that I would have sent him on loan, one last season to prove himself. With the signing of Moreno we now have Flanagan, Enrique, Johnson, Marquilo and with guys like Wisdom and Robinson, lets just say we're covered at full back.

I'm not that bothered about Kelly we need to find a goal scorer.

It's always puzzling to me that the super cup isn't a bigger event

especially in the older days when the gap between European Cup and the old Cup Winners' Cup was nowhere near as big

I would suspect it extends to several Spanish sporting organisations and individuals...there was a lot of vested interests involved in that court-ordered destruction of blood samples some years ago IMO

It seems Rodriguez / Real don't know where to play him and as a result the game is passing him by.

Madrid look very dangerous going forward but it's the usual headless chicken stuff at the back. Leaving the midfield to Modric & Kroos is not going to cut the mustard against the better sides.

I must admit I have a soft spot for any prime British/Irish player who tries to make his reputation overseas in the best European leagues, so Bale makes Real about 10% more likeable in my eyes (from a baseline of 0). The likes of John Charles, Liam Brady, even David Platt, McManaman...

Bale is the least talented of that gang. He is an algorithm-based trader to their swashbuckling buccaneers.

In fairness it's a different game now..would not however include Ashley Cole in list, past-prime players prolonging careers don't count

AgREED, though I still cannot stand those cheating, Government sponsored bastards.

AgREED. Bale is the classic 'modern footballer' - basically a professional sprinter who was coached to kick a ball hard and straight enough when he had ran past everyone. Theo Walcott with a straighter kick. :shit:

I'm not a Bale or Real fan by any means but that's selling him quite short. Yeah his speed is his most important attribute, but he's not only pure affleticism who knows how to kick a ball. His transfer fee was ridiculous but Madrid rarely buy garbage. It's not as if they were threatened by Tottenham. You can't score and assist on the amount of goals Bale has in two leagues and be crap.

Ah always like the British overseas laddie tae dae well... Even before Gazza joined Rangers, Ah used tae watch 'Football Italia' on channel 4 tae see hoo they got on. Platt was the best o' the 1991 - 1993 mob at Bari and Juve, Gazza wiz no' bad wi' Lazio but Des Walker was total gash... Italy destroyed him.

Good stuff, laddie - Ye've got me reading up on the League Cup noo. That Dagenham game wiz the highest scoring game in LC history, ba the wee. Alsae, MK Dons beat AFC Wimbledon 3 - 1.

In other news, it appears Lennon has been putting people offae joining Celtic...

'DAN PETRESCU has revealed he turned down the chance to manage Celtic.

And the Romanian legend told how former Hoops boss Neil Lennon warned him of “problems” at the club.

Petrescu’s long-term assistant Dumitru Stangaciu revealed in Record Sport in May that the ex-Chelsea player was on the Parkhead club’s radar as a possible successor to Lennon.

And the former Dynamo Moscow boss said an offer was on the table but he opted to take over at Al Arabi in Qatar instead.

Speaking to Romanian TV station Dolce Sport, Petrescu said: “The offer from Celtic was concrete, I had it on the table.

“Celtic is a very big club but I chose to join Al Arabi  I have no regrets, now I’m with Al Arabi.

“Celtic contacted me, they wanted me. I spoke to their previous manager, they have problems.”'

Watching the Bayern vs Dortmund Super Cup. Pretty good match so far. Neuer has had to make a pile of saves. BVB lead 1-0 at half time.

Did Ye ken, laddie, that 'Borussia' is the German word fer 'Rangers'?

(Just kilting - it's latin fer 'Preußen' - a former German kingdom)

Yep. A few German clubs used Latin versions of words in their name for some reason.
