There is an autopsy 'footage' that was well done. The dummy they created looked exactly like JFK. For a moment you think you were watching an actual footage from that event.

I only saw about half of it. It's very long (something like 5.5 hours) and a bit messy at times but if you kind of enjoyed Leopard you'll probably enjoy this. It has young De Niro and Depardieu (who was rather handsome as a young man, wth happened?) in the starring roles, so that's a big plus.

JFK was a disgusting pile of shit that only further poisoned discourse on the events it dramatized ... It was a disgusting film

    It was fine.

No it wasn't. It was a pack of lies and fantasy served up as some sort of expose. Complete garbage

It was stylized fantasy built upon the mythology of the events. You take this shit too seriously.

It didn't change anybody's opinion of the JFK assassination. The conspiracy kooks were already out there in full force by the time this film came out.

It may have fetishized the assassination, but whatever you think actually happened, it's a ripe event that's had enough strange things about it, it's easy to toy around with.

It's a fictionalized version of historical events, just like a James Michener novel.

This is simply not true... I was 14 when the film came out and for many people in my age group, this served as some sort of history lesson (as historical dramas always do, whether anyone here wants to admit this or not) and introduced a completely convoluted narrative to impressionable and stupid people who were unaware of how grotesquely inaccurate the film was

History proves me right on this matter... Blatantly ridiculous, false, inaccurate works (be they Books, films, plays, poems) based on real people/real events have poisoned the discourse of history and created millions of misinformed people for as long as anyone has been keeping track... JFK wasn't billed with any caveats and Oliver Stone certainly didn't do a thing to dissuade the public from treating it as a serious document... To say that JFK didn't influence and spawn more conspiracy loons is utterly preposterous

I don't see it that way. I'm a little bit older then you and all Oliver Stone did was take a bunch of shit that was already out there, and throw it against the wall.

Impressionable, paranoid people are going to be there no matter what. Stone didn't give birth to them. Might have encouraged them a bit, but I don't know a single sane person who takes this movie seriously as a piece of history.

Like I said, there was plenty of strange shit already regarding JFK in Dallas. Doesn't take a genius to figure it might spawn an entire counter culture, and posit tons of crazy theories.

I take anything "inspired by" and "based on" with a grain of salt, and judge it solely as a work of art, and if it's entertaining.

It's not like Stone pulled a Reifenstahl or some shit. In the context of most things, it's a pretty harmless piece of puffery.

    agreed

the film spawned more 'alternate history' movies, books, etc and begat more 'Illuminati secret society controlled by Grey Aliens are ruling the world' wackos. I just shudder when someone will start saying that Quentin Tarantino's version of Hitler's demise was the real thing.
