A couple of those are pretty up in the air... Group H, Group C and Group D are arguably the most competitive/interesting

Pretty good draw for Liverpool - they'll fancy they can get through that group if they get something at Basel. Not a lot of scope for 'upsets' in many of those groups IMO.

No coincidence that two of those are groups which contain none of the really big hitters. I'd be pretty surprised if Arse and BVB don't get out of group D pretty comfortably.

    Obviously, to the first point

As for the second, don't underestimate Galatasaray... They can be dangerous to both of those clubs

Anderlecht, a genuine power long ago, are merely along for the ride

I could legitimately see any of the clubs in group C going through

You know a club is pretty small potatoes when they aren't even on FIFA

By pretty much any measure, Anderlecht are a very big club. As big as Arsenal and bigger than Galatasaray IMO. However, as you say, such is modern fitbaw that they are probably the whipping boys of that group.

Agree... And that is some sad shit... So many clubs like that now... Monchengladbach, Saint Etienne, Hamburg and then even some once colossal clubs like Ajax and Benfica... How can Ajax be merely a glorified feeder club in today's world??? This is one of the most important clubs in the history of football... The birthplace of Total Football... 3 straight European Cups... Giants of the game... Now they develop outstanding players and lose them to clubs with 1/100th the history

I think Liverpool did OK out of it.

Real are a machine in comparison to Liverpool but I hope Rodgers talks to Benitez about how he has kept guys like Ronaldo quiet in the past.

I think Real can be got at.

By rights, Liverpool should get out of that group.

Yep. Chelsea always seem to get an easy draw. When one of the presenters picked out Juventus i was hoping they would go in Chelsea's group but i just knew somehow it wouldn't happen. I felt it in me boons.

You aren't worried about Liverpool's trip to Razgrad when their opponents will be cheered on by a six thousand seat capacity crowd?

The real draw comes out tomorrow.

Celtic, Everton, maybe Hull, and Tottenham.

I hope Liverpool do well for Irish and TKO's sake and because they are the only CL English club I don't either actively hate (City, Chelski) or look upon with ambivalence (Arsenal)

Still laughing at what Chelsea got. Incredible.

I expect Liverpool to clearly make the round of 16... They can conceivably win each of their home matches (even against Real) and I think for certain they'll get away results against Basel and Ludogrets if not Real

Arsenal are a shadow of the club they used to be. Their sole aim now is to just make the Champions League rather than actually compete in it. Back in the day when they had Henry and Bergkamp they were great to watch because they had ambitions of winning the competition, these days I just expect them to make it out of the group and get pummelled in the last 16.

They don't even play the same football as they do in in England. It's not quite park the bus but a much more defensive approach. Then when they lose 1-0 they can go on about how it was really close and if this or that went their way it would have been a different result. As if they lost as a result of a coin toss. Basically they tried what Besiktas did against them a couple of days ago.

Whatever keeps the accountants happy I guess.

There does come a point when you have all that money and you should just cut loose and go for it. That said I like a well run club.

Yeah but that goes back to the point about Newcastle we were discussing a few pages back, I see no point in a "well run" club that has no ambition. It defeats the whole purpose of football, which is to win things.

The alternative is terrifying. A Leeds, a Pompey, or like Liverpool, being dragged through the shit in the papers by Hicks and Gillet and their "epic swindle" bullshit. Clubs become a figure of fun, like a broker shorting a stock and using it for fun.
