Why Did Dimitry Pirog Retire??

Quality, talented fighter. Supposedly injured but seems to have quit over injury and plain disinterest.

Wikipedia suggests he took up boxing because he wasn't playing enough Chess.

Perhaps he wasn't getting enough Chess as he was doing too much boxing

"Dmitry used to be a chess player and wasn’t getting enough activity, so he decided to start boxing"

It's as if Beating the Shit Out of Jacobs SPOOKED Pirog...Literally Did NATHAN After That...If Pirog Whipped Hagler, Monzon or BHop (or Even Pavlik or Martinez), THEN Folded Up Shop, that'd Be Fine...But Jacobs???...

Bizarre isn't it? It's not often that a fighter just disappears after a solid win like that.

I'm under the impression his back injury was career ending. Isn't that the case?

    VERY Bizarre...

The Jacbos Win OPENED Doors for Pirog...1st Bout in America (if REED's Not Mistaken), for a World Title, vs. a Highly Touted Prospect, & an EXTREMELY Impressive Result...

Though they Fight Differently, Pirog Could've Received GGG Level Hype PRIOR to Golovkin, if he Played his Cards Right...It's as If the SCENT of Success SCARED him...

Maybe he knew he wasn't as good as his fanboys were saying he was. Maybe he knew Jacobs was a scrub and that Cotto would kick the shit out of him....when the time came. Is that it, perhaps??

Absolutely, also where's this motherfucker Paul Williams. He had a good although controversial win against Lara. He could be right in the superwelter picture with big fights against Canelo...

    Fucking boxers...

Yeah, your boy Pirog's back injury was just as bad as Paul's injury, I'm sure.

Pirog just didn't fancy his chances against Gaybox, simple as that. Thought retirement was a better option than a vicious yet cute beating at the hands of Gaybox.

Are you Really Equating a "Back Injury" to PARALYSIS???...

I'm a fan of Gaybox and I'm pretty indifferent about Pirog. What's with this fanboy shit, mexi are you 12 years old or something? Of course Golovkin would have beat him. I'm just saying you guys cannot know how bad this back injury is. This shit can be pretty fucked up. You didn't even know he had 3 fights after Jacobs...

I knew he had 3 fights after Jacobs. Actually to tell the truth, I thought he had a couple, not 3.

But the point is, he effectively disappeared. Had 3 meaningless fights, that I would guess most people on Fightbeat have not even seen, then retired. Carried no momentum or hype at all after a pretty good win.

To me, that's essentially disappearing. Just like Hamed disappeared after Barrera, doesn't really matter that he had one more pointless fight.

In preparation for the bout Pirog suffered an injury slipping a disc in his back which resulted in the fight being cancelled.

Pirog developed a debilitating back injury, his career ended prematurely, why is this even being discussed? He didn't seem the most driven fighter but am sure he wouldn't have spurned another HBO payday, Golovkin was just an emerging titleholder during Pirog's moment in spotlight.

  27. His_Royness

Thing is he kinda had the same problem GGG has right now. Russian guy with skills but not a big name and therefore had trouble securing big money fights. Maybe even moreso than GGG right now who is in good hands with HBO moneywise. Even after beating Jacobs in impressive fashion he could only get three pretty meaningless fights. We don't know if that's because he had no balls anymore after the Jacobs win or because people thought boxing him is high risk of losing with low reward.

Hamed clearly couldn't handle losing and boxing fans were rightly pissed off that he left and didn't give him anymore fights but that's not the case with Pirog. Nobody knows if the back injury is potentially career ending or not. But the guy has every right to retire anyways it's his life and his health. Saying fuck Pirog is like getting angry at your favorite bakery stopping business because you liked the bread so much...

You're Affording Pirog EVERY Benefit of the Doubt. How many Back Surgeries did he Have?

Are we Certain he's Exhausted Every Possible Option Towards CORRECTING his Back Issue?

For Such a Talented Fighter, Pirog Seems to LACK Much "Fight" at All.

He TEASED Us with his Potential, Beat ONE Motherfucker Anybody Gives a Pint of Piss about, Injured his Back and Called it Quits.

    So Yeah, Fuck Pirog...

Yeah if you only accept fighters to retire with a medical statement from their doctor it's cool. What if the surgery necessary to go forward with boxing brings a risk that threatens his health even his normal life.

Of course boxers need to make their efforts to continue their boxing careers publically accessable so that it's easier to judge for us, if they are pussies or not. Shouldn't have teased you with his talent so much, the poor guy...
