    We sure have

In other news, there may be less than 40,000 watching the England game tonight at Wembley.

I think this deserves its own thread but Lithuania plays the United Arab Emirates in a few minutes.

I assume that's low? What would be the normal attendance?

  6. Jimmy

Jimmy The Greatest of Are Times

Very low. Pretty sure most England games attract over 80,000 supporters.

  7. whiskey

Why is it so low? If they usually attract 80,000 it would have to be something more than just not carrying about Norway as an opponent.

I'd say people are just not interested, especially after what happened at the World Cup and many not liking Hodgson in charge still.

If UAE beat Lithuania, their excited commentator will shout "Darius Kasparaitis! Eugenijus Riabovas! Tadas Blinda! Marko Ramius! Charles Bronson! Anthony Kiedis! We have beaten them all! We have beaten them all! Algirdas Butkevičius, do you hear me? Your boys took a hell of a beating!"

Right? I mean, the only time they won a World Cup, they had a guy who was credited with a hat trick despite scoring only one legitimate goal:dunno::Bad:

Was so disappointed in the signing of Wellbeck. All these years of calling him garbage and now I have to hope he proves me wrong.

    Uh what?

Chelsea has 4 league titles and over a dozen cups, West Ham has zero league titles and who cares many cups.

    What is this nonsense.

I also wouldn't expect Chelsea fans to act with outrage over a QPR fan. It isn't like there is some tremendous rivalry there.

I'm glad Remy is a decent player though I hear he had some heart issues or something freaky.

I don't care much for nonsensical pseudo-elitist snobbery.

Some irrelevant nonsense about being bought by a billionaire blablabla, anyone with any even basic knowledge of football knows Chelsea has one of the largest fanbases in Europe, is constantly contending for titles and has been near or at the top of the tables for a better part of the turn of the millennium. Perhaps this doesn't qualify as "prestige" to cynical internet typists but CLEARLY it does to just about everyone else, including the players.

    Don't patronize me, thanks.

    Hello. Fuck Chelski. Goodbye.

People from all over the world only started to "support" Chelski after they bought their first EPL title.

So, like any other team that wins the EPL?

I'm on about people who "support" one team then another if one of their teams fails to win trophies.

So if Bill Gates decides to buy Brentford and they suddenly become this all-conquering force, that makes them a "prestigious club"? Of course it doesn't, they're still Brentford, just with an exceedingly wealthy backer. When Abramovic pulls out, the players will leave and the club will go into free fall.

It isn't "snobbery", these bankrolled clubs are ruining the game. Prestigious clubs can produce their own players, Man Utd had a golden generation in the 90's, Liverpool and Everton still bring players through, Chelsea haven't produced a worthwhile academy player since John Terry and that was nearly 20 years ago. All of their stars are bought in. In fact, two of their key players when they won their first EPL title were starlets from West Hams academy in Lampard and Cole.

Germany managed to only get beaten 2-4 against Argentina yesterday in a friendly after trailing 0-4 after 50 minutes...
