It has more entertainment value than Mayweather-Maidana as Taylor would stay in the pocket a lot more, but Meldrick would also be landing much more than one shot at a time.
Taylor would beat the shit outta that scrub. A prime Taylor is a better fighter than a 37 year old Mayweather.
Bull fuckin shit! Pre-Chavez Taylor would beat the 37 Floyd by a CLEAR margin. Floyd is too old to keep up with the pace Mel would set, and at this point, Floyd doesn't have enough power to deter Taylor. Even Floyd in his physical prime would have big problems with Taylor. At 140, would I pick the Floyd of the Gatti fight to beat a prime Taylor? Yes, I would. But it wouldn't be an easy fight for Floyd.
The Floyd Mayweather of 2014 would NOT beat the Taylor of the McGirt fight. Yall are overestimating how much Floyd has left in the tank, and not taking into account how much better Taylor is than Floyd's recent opponents.
Maidana could conceivably KO Taylor. I'm surprised (though I shouldn't be) that no one has yet acknowledged that. If teeing off on Maidana with combinations was a winning strategy, you can bet PBF would've employed it. But Maidana is simply too dangerous for such an approach. And so the success Taylor would've had would've depended on his ability to temper his offense somewhat in favor of a more defensive approach. If he was his usual hyper - offensive self, I'd give Maidana a good shot at hurting Taylor repeatedly and possibly stopping him.
KO Taylor? The fuckin scrub couldn't take out Khan, Morales, and Broner!!!! When in the FUCK did scrubby Marcos Maidana become Pipino Cuevas?
Maidana is being overrated by an INSANE level right now. Pre-Floyd fight, people would have LAUGHED at this matchup. Mel Taylor would thrash the shit outta Maidana. I don't even see Maidana being as good as Crisanto Espana was. Maidana is a fuckin scrub. He's a level above Brandon Rios, that's about it.
Meldrick Taylor would beat Floyd, certainly this Floyd, and Maidana Double is smoking something potent
Exactly. A guy who lost to Amir fucking Khan't and Devon Alexander is beating Meldrick Taylor? GTFOH! And he couldn't even stop Broner, despite hitting AB with EVERYTHING but the kitchen sink, yet he's gonna STOP Taylor? Double has hit a new low.
Taylor ' s a lot better than Broner or Khan. But he was also a lot braver. And whereas guys like Khan and Broner hung on for dear life and managed to see the final bell as a result, all I'm saying is that Taylor ' s penchant for trading would not have worked in his favor here. Taylor winning by decision, or even by stoppage, is not out of the question. But we all know Taylor is gonna be hit here. And not a little bit.
You're overrating Maidana's power considerably. Taylor would stop Maidana. He'd hit him more times than Maidana has ever been nailed in the past, and the gap in the speed would be soooooooo huge that Maidana would win very little exchanges.
Agreed. If there is one thing you need to bear in mind with Maidana when judging him as an offensive fighter, he couldn't KO Khan. Yeah he's improved since then, but ultimately, he couldn't KO Khan.
The irony is that by completely overrating Maidana, double makes the object of his rage (Mayweather) look greater by default and making these two victories seem like really notable accomplishments instead of what they are... namely, unimpressive, ugly decision victories over a game, but essentially poor world-level brawler/fighter
What illegal gloves? Are you just trying to piss me off? The controversy is that pbf would not let Maidana wear gloves that were perfectly legal! You guys are blowing out of proportion what I said. I said it's conceivable maidana could stop taylor. If none of you concede this is true, the. You're all off in fans boy land. X, your criticism of madaina was always that he was a bad finisher.
That's only ironic if you incorrectly assume I'm here simply to prop up the fighters I like and disparage those I don't. It also doesn't hold up because the premise that pbf is the object of my rage is false.
No we're off in the land where the only guy to stop Taylor in his prime was one of the greatest fighters of the last three decades and a clinical, ridiculously precise puncher and even then he barely got the stoppage, the same land where Maidana couldn't do a thing with Devon Alexander and failed to stop one of the most comically-chinned world ranked fighters in memory despite hitting him quite a few times... This is called logic. Taylor is roughly 5 times the fighter Devon Alexander is and clearly far more durable and tough than Amir Khan
Outside of Sly, I can't think of a poster who discusses Floyd more often than you do And he's not here anymore
Ok. Fine. Taylor beats every welter out there except pbf. Is that pretty close to what you're trying to say?
Taylor is the clearly better fighter but he brings something to the table that would really bother Maidana: bodypunching. Taylor was a vicious bodypuncher and did it in combination. The 140 lb Taylor wrecks Maidana. Maidana has a better shot at 147 but the Taylor that fought Aaron Davis still had enough left to beat him.
