For me Chelsea-Schalke is the most surprising of the first round of CL matches. They got obliterated last year every time they faced an A class side in the competition.

Fast forward to today, they are 16th in the Bundesliga and even lost their first round German Cup game to some 3rd division team nobody has heard of. Last match was a thrashing at the hands of Gladbach. Compare that with Chelsea who have looked extremely formidable to start their campaign. Strong core and their new additions have performed even better than anybody could have dreamed of.

This had slaughter written all over it.

Yep. Chelski beat Schalke in last season's champions league 3-0 at home and 3-0 away. I didn't even give it a seconds thought that Schalke would get something from the game. As you said, they're having a right 'mare this season. Even without Costa you would think Chelski had more than enough quality to win, but Chelski did have plenty of chances to wrap things up but didn't take their chances. Drogba missed a glorious chance, Fabregash missed what was practically a sitter too. Hazard had a good chance to score but the keeper kept his attempt out.

If one team dominates a game but fails to put away their chances and the opposition takes their chance(chances), you've got to applaud the opposition.

    Anyway, fuck Chelski

I didn't see any more than the highlights of the two goals. It makes sense that a few things needed to go poorly for Chelsea (or good for Schalke) for it even to be a narrow scoreline in a victory. That said, if I knew ahead of time those things would happen I still would have predicted something like 2-1 Chelsea. The thought of Schalke getting a point out of it (let alone at Stamford Bridge) never seemed to me a possibility.

There's no wee Ye applauded Chelsea when they won it in a jobby manner a few years back, like!

Real Madrids current attack cost more than Ajax have spent on transfers since the club was founded in 1900.

As it stands, The Pensioners, Shitty, Bayern, Real and Barca are FFP compliant and have the best general managers, the best managers, owners who are willing to invest and supporters who seek success instead of being blue-collar hooligans blahblahblahblahblahblahblahblah... - Silent

1-1 at half time between THE Celtic Football Club and a club from Salzburg whose unfortunate supporters have to deal with their club being purchased by some daft cunt and renamed after a fucking energy drink

It'd be massive for Celtic to get points out of this one... Salazburg might be the best club in their group and this match is happening in Salzburg

Brown gives it away (of course) but a foul on Salzburg saves us from a counterattack

Celtic, needing some pointlessly intricate forays into the box followed by strikes sent roughly 30 feet wide of goal have decided to put on their specialist, Anthony "Tiocfaidh ar La" Stokes

Celtic appear to be fading... They've got to hold on here, at least get the draw
