Yes. There were two changes made this season.

1) The winner of the Europa League gets an automatic spot in the CL next season.

2) If the FA Cup winner has already qualified for Europe through the CL, their spot will NOT go the the cup runner up. It will go to the next team on the table. So if that rule were in effect last season, it would have been Man U and not Hull City as the seventh club in Europe.

 

The first rule is an excellent development. The second is a disgraceful one.

Another thing I like about Everton playing in the Europa League is their matches are automatically scheduled on Sundays on weeks they play in this cup.

Ever since NBC took over the rights to the Prem here, Everton matches are televised less in the US. The Sunday match is just about an automatic TV spot.
