If I was a player and I won the premier league just once with QPR, words wouldn't describe how happy I'd feel inside.

I dunno man, the only way that would be feasible in this era is with a ridiculous cash injection, and that would feel hollow to me. I don't know if I could really enjoy us winning in that fashion.

Then let's just pretend it's 1976 (or 1993) and we actually claimed the league trophy :bears:

Word! I wonder how many Chelsea fans could actually name a player from the team which won the league in the 50's (without looking it up).

It really wouldn't be much of an achievement. I think it was more of an achievement for Ipswich Town to claim 5th place in the premier league back in 2000-01 than for Man Citeh to claim the league title in 2011-12.

If Brian Clough came back to life, he'd get you at least one title with your present budget

Of course, Calig, your cubs could be just like the Yankees/Sox/Dodgers... God knows they have the money... But why spend it when you can fill Wrigley to the rafters to watch a third rate club every game?

How many do you think would recognize the Pensioner crest if you blurred out the word "Chelsea"?

What you chaps are discussing makes me think about managers as well... If you finish any worse than second with Real Madrid or Bayern or Chelsea, you've frankly done a mediocre, possibly shitty job

Most of the Celtic supporters I've talked to are in the age range of guys like myself and Hut... 25-40... You get so deep into it that you talk about Bobby Lennox like you knew the guy... None of us were close to alive in 1967 but we would know the 67 starting XI the same way you guys know the '76 QPR side... Irish and TKO are too young to have seen Ian St. John but you know damned well they KNOW him... Calig got into football late in life like me but I bet you he'd know the Everton of the 80s the way I know the Celtic of the 60s and 70s ... That's being a proper supporter, to me... Knowing your club's history, its story

You know the lineups of he 1982 Kansas City Royals and the 1985 Minnesota North Stars better than the guys that played on those teams though.

My post was re:Jeter not a dig at the Yankees. "He played 19 seasons with the same ballclub! You don't see loyalty like that these days." I like Jeter, but Jesus. He played for the most storied franchise in the biggest city with the biggest market. People act like he did 19 years in Minneapolis or KC.

Not as well as you'd think. I've kind of focused on 2004 and forward and when I became a fan of English football, I set about learning everything from all ins and outs of Engliish football, all clubs, all fans, and all of England. The biggest part of it being traveling over every year for matches. It's strange in a lot of ways. I will watch a CL match between Barca and Real Madrid because it's CL. CL involves English football. But if those two were playing a league match or for a Spanish Cup, I'm not bothered.

If I had a choice between a free ticket and plane ride to watch Bayern-Dortmund or a free ticket to watch Everton play at Yeovil in a cup, I'm going to Yeovil. In fact, I'd probably just choose about any match up in England. League 2 teams playing each other.

I will have time to delve more into Everton history later. For now, I know the big names. I'd like to see some lower league matches. I'd like to see Everton play in another country, though that will take away some of my time in the UK.

I hear you, but still, you wouldn't blink like "what?" if somebody said "Andy Gray" or "Neville Southall" to you, you know what I mean?

That reminds me of when Hearts finished second in 2006 ahead of Rangers. One reporter said "you have to give some credit to Alex McLeish (then Rangers manager) for being the first man to finish third in a two-horse race".

    Yeah.

I am surprised when anyone I speak to knows about Everton at all. When I find someone here who follows the Prem, I always ask who their favourtie club is. Two clubs get the standard eye roll.

"Manchester United" = "I don't really watch 'SOCCER' but it's cool to pretend like I do."

"Chelsea" = "Yeah, I just started following the Premier League five minutes ago."

I thought I was going to find a new patch of Man City fans that you can throw with the Chelsea answer but not yet. I have only met one American Man City fan and he used to live in Manchester.

Most people here would think "Celtic Football Club" is some sort of Irish-American group that get together and play two hand touch on the weekends

I always think about the whole experience of going over for matches. (Though most of these clowns won't go over or only go once in their life.)

Over the past ten years I have had a great time following Everton both in Liverpool and at away matches. I have met so many people and have been treated very well by the Everton supporters. I had an epiphany the last time I went to Goodison Park. Everything was so foreign and strange to me when I started coming to matches. Mostly in a good way. After the last game, I kind of realized that I don't even think like that any more. I just come to see football. I don't think about using different money, hearing different accents, or even noticing anything like that any more. Being at Goodison is like going down to the corner store here in Bakersfield (in my mind.)

Anyway, these Man U and Chelsea clowns will never have this kind of experience. "I'm here from America to see Man U." Get in line behind the 45 Chinese guys, the 36 people from Brazil, the 25 over from Japan, the people that came on the ferry from Holland, the 10 Australian blokes, the six buddies from South Korea, the party from Argentina, and stand next to those other seven American guys. Enjoy your stay.

Before I followed football, I only knew them from the Rod Stewart song. I don't know the exact title but the song that goes "You're in my heart, you're in my soul, you'll be my breath should I grow old. You are my lover, you're my best friend. You're in my soul."
