Cuevas might have been better, but he sure wasn't level aboves Mayorga as you're impliying he is. No way this isn't a competitive fight. The only fighter who blew Mayorga away are Tito and Oscar, and Cuevas is not close of being in the same league as these two. All the rest (Forrest, Vargas, Mosley, Cotto) either lost or struggled badly with him. And these fighter were at least as good as Cuevas

He was on the decline (mostly mentally), but he wasn't used up. People use this excuse way too often to hide the fact that they misjudged a fighter. You're not shot or used up just because you get koed once or twice.

"mostly mentally" ... guy has been knocked out brutally three times... has done damage to his system by draining himself to make 154 for years... likes to party... blood tests reveal an iron deficiency and he's warned not to fight... never fights again after the fight

Cuevas beats Mayorga by TKO-KO.......and Cotto didn't struggle one bit vs. Mayorga...he won every round...

The fight was postponed because he had to get treated for this. it had zero impact on him being shot nor on his performance on fight night afaik.

Vargas shotness was mostly created by persons who overrated him initially. He wasn't in his prime againt Mayorga, but neither was Mayorga.

What's ridiculous is thinking that his iron deficiency had something to do with him being out of his prime, and claiming that a 25 years old man his out of his physical prime. I guess you'll claim anything if it fits your agenda.

a 25 year old man in a sport where you take blows to the head could most definitely be "past his prime", you lunatic

Was Wilfred Benitez in his prime at 25? Simple yes or no

Benitez was a drug addict that lost all discipline and focus. I dont see any similarity between him and Cuevas

You're reaching and using ridiculous analogy to try to prove your point. Next, I guess you'll compare Cuevas to Mcclellan.

There's absolutely nothing that could point to Cuevas being shot against Duran. I can accept the argument that he didn't took Stafford seriously enough, and that's one of the reason he lost that fight, but I dont believe for a second that he was physically diminished against Duran, or that he wasn't physically and mentally ready, since it was a huge latin fight. He simply was not an elite level fighter.

Anyway, this discussion is boring me out. We both have exposed our argument, and neither of us will convince the other. so let's move on.
