Wanyama & Forster were both top players. Quite a few other players in our team circa 2012-13 who'd walk into the 1998 team, i'd say.

Aye, but it's nearly 2015 now. That great CL run seems a long time ago and the good players seem to have all gone to bigger clubs. Like Southampton.

Many coaches have said Adel has the ability to be one of the best players on the planet, and seeing him play up close, I'd agree with them. His skillset is fucking insane. He is a fat, lazy bastard though, I agree, and that's what has held him back.

  4. Slice N Dice

I get your point about the juxtaposition with Southampton and Celtic, but you can't knock what they've been doing so far this season.

Further to this, we'll never agree on him, but at least you acknowledge the talent

The thing is, though, everything you've said is based on a hypothetical 'what-if' analysis of a bloke who has played professional football for years in some of the world's biggest leagues. Coulda, shoulda, woulda. You cannot realistically compare that to a bloke who won shit loads of honours, scored over two hundred goals and is universally recognised as a great player by everyone and anyone.

I always rated Adel. The lad is naturally gifted fo' sure. But he's come up a long, long way short.

Started great. They'll finish eighth. And the fact that Southampton is considered a 'step-up' from Celtic is outrageous.

I agree that you cannot compare their achievements, that's obvious, but sometimes you can analyse a players skills and say "this kid has everything in the locker" based off things you've seen them do on the pitch. The "new Zidane" label was probably a weight on his shoulders, or went to his head, but yeah he'll never reach the heights I thought he was (and still do think that he's) capable of.

The last Celtic player to leave for a bigger club was Henrik Larsson. Before that, Lou Macari.

I feel like this video makes several salient points re: John Hartson. :)

    <iframe src="//www.youtube.com/embed/iodsuIr1zDk" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" width="480"></iframe>

He's apparently a genuinely nice guy, too. My brother served him a bunch of times in the pizza shop he used to work in (shocker, right?) but more tellingly my mate was barman at the hotel most footballers frequent, so he sees them in private and at their worst and he says Hartson is/was always absolutely lovely, even when mongoed.

Balotelli had so many chances against Hull but just couldn't find the net. He either fell over when in front of goal, or didn't connect when attempting to head the ball or had a poor shot saved. Mixture of bad luck and poor quality from him which is resulting in a lack of goals.

More shocking evidence exposing the myth of Mike Ashley's 'brilliant' financial running of NUFC. How are the thirteenth best supported club in Europe, with average attendances of over 50,000 per home game (4,000 more than Shellick and Inter, 15,000 more than Tottenham) not on that list? The answer is that Ashley has sacked all catering staff and outsourced the catering operations, so the club makes near enough nothing on food and booze sold, corporate box sales are at an all-time low and he's had to repeatedly lower prices to maintain attendances as tens of thousands of supporters have wrapped-in - Newcastle United is the only club in the Premier League whose match-day revenue has FALLEN since 2007.

There can be only one as Lewis Macleod o' the Clan Macleod headed in a lovely goal tae win one nil in the Scottish League Cup quarter-final against St Johnstone. Yet another SPL scalp as the Slazengers(tm) rise up through the ranks wi' oor saviour, Mike Sashley, seeming tae take control o' the club.

Wi' an 18 million poond war chest set fer January '15 - we welcome the chase.

Ye ken a wee bit aboot fitba... which club has produced the better players in the last thirty years - Soothampton or Newcastle?

Newcastle, if we go back 30 years. Southampton in the last ten.
