Here's a question. What is the best goal you've ever seen scored AGAINST your club?

which is the bigger club historically, Sunderland or Newcastle? Sunderland have won more titles, but to me NUFC seems like the more prestigious club.

Also, can Everton be considered the 4th biggest club in England, after M. United, Liverpool, and Arsenal?

I would say either Villa or Everton, I'd maybe lean towards Villa, purely on the basis of their European Cup win (although obviously isn't fair on Everton as their best team wasn't allowed to play in it).

For me it would be Nicky Maynards goal against us for Bristol City

aye, that goal is even better than Pelle's goal against us this year.

J.Bothroyd's goal for Cardiff against us in 2011 was an excellent finish, as was Rafael's volley for Man Utd against us in 2013. One I saw live was Coates' acrobatic volley against us when we came from behind to beat Liverpool 3-2 at Loftus Road.

Gerrard in or not, I don't think it will matter tonight. I have a feeling they might aim to play ultra defensive and look to won the game 0-1.

TKO, you're a fair bit behind me in the official EPL fantasy football league we're in. I'm on an incredible 547pts whilst you're on a measly 421 :crafty:

I would be third (and one point off second) in Your Ma's Your Da league.

I'm biased, but obviously I'd say NUFC. Sunderland had a golden period at the turn of the 19th century, where they won four of their six titles but have done very little since. They have played a total of four European ties. NUFC, by comparison, had two periods where they were the best side in the country - the Edwardian period and the early 1950's where they won three FA Cups in five years at a time. During the latter period the FA Cup was at least as prestigious as the league title; in two of those three season NUFC played reserve sides in their last six games to effectively forfeit a league challenge when they were second and third immediately after their semi-final wins. NUFC also challenged consistently for trophies during the 1990s and the early 2000's. They have played 17 seasons in Europe and 134 matches in total. NUFC have a higher historical attendance and have won more trophies overall. They are bigger than Sunderland though both are 'big clubs'.

I'd agree with Everton being the fourth biggest club in England, even with Chelshit and Man City cheating their way to honours.

I'd lean towards N'Cassle being bigger than Everton, personally. Nearly perennial underachievers though they might be.

Jeez that was a terrible second sentence. Sounds like the type of mangled nonsense Chris Christy hits out with.

Everton has won a lot more than Newcastle, though and if it hadn't been for Heysel, who knows what they might have achieved? I think that has to count for something

Nah, I have no issue at all with Everton being 'bigger' than NUFC. Everton have been a consistent force of sorts in English football for pretty much all of the last 100 years - even now, in a period of relative uncompetitiveness, they are a top-six side.

Everton were robbed of at least one European Cup win by Heysel. No doubt about that I think in my mind. Incidently, Everton have won 15 major honours to NUFC's 11. They have won more, but not 'a lot more'.

Yeah. I mixed up our opponent. I mixed up the sheep shaggers with the other sheep shaggers. We beat WBA earlier in the season.

I wonder if the Northwest figure is still skewed by 2008. Liverpool were named Capital of Culture for all of Europe and granted a billion pounds for infrastructure.

My first trip there was in 2007. Between now and then it's made a world of difference. The city centre, Liverpool 1. All shiny and new.

First one that sprang to mind was this (the Bergkamp one was a fluke):

Considering they beat bookies favourites Newcastle/Gateshead, that's not quite as impressive a title as it sounds.

yeah, Glasgow won that in 1990. Thats like giving it to Detroit now.

Liverpool is getting quite allot of public investment with the new port and new hospital/metro stops and so on though. Manchester with the airport/salford tram links etc has probably been getting the most outside Landan.
