which has nothing to do with right now

Ajax has won more trophies than Shitty has... Which club you think a good manager would have a better chance of winning a European Cup with right now?

Aye, but that's ignoring facts. He managed the first financially doped side. He spent a billion quid. He failed.

You can't 'unimagine' these facts. They happened. They have to count against him.

Yet he hasn't won a European cup with that side. Funny that.

No-one gave Taggart a billion quid and said 'buy who you want'. He built his sides from scratch. There was no equivalent at all.

Yet he's won two with sides that had nothing even approaching billions and you are completely dismissing it and referring to the guy as Bobby Robson's translator, like he went straight from that position to Chelski

Feebs is being deliberately facetious. I agree that his failures to land the big one with Real and Chelshit should count against him, but they also don't wipe out what he has achieved elsewhere. At the end of the day it's a cup competition, it's the great leveller, anything can go tits up on a one-off occasion.

Why can't I? You're basically unimagining that the guy won two ECs with clubs that have nowhere near this level of resources (by couching it in the "Big Club" argument, which is frankly disingenuous in this context where "Big Club" and "Money Club" are clearly very different concepts)

United were the most profitable club in the world until recently, they had a head start on pretty much any club in the world financially, especially in England, up until Chelshit and Abramovic destroyed the market.

When he won at Porto Chelshit were a nothing club. Inter are now, and will always be, a bigger club than Chelshit.

If he'd won two titles at Notts County, you would have a point. He didn't. He wot titles at two of the biggest ten clubs in world football. When he had squillions, at Chelshit and at Real (the biggest club in the world), he failed. They have to be black marks against him.

Their financial advantage came from their success on the field. They built it, or, more accurately, Taggart built it. And they never had a billion quid to spend.

I don't disagree with the first two sentences, but it doesn't change the fact they generally did dick all in Europe for a large part of his reign.

At the end of the day, Mourinho has as many CL wins as Ferguson, and both times they were achieved with clubs nobody gave a second thought to beforehand

Two wins, two finals, several semi-finals - all built from scratch. At no stage did Taggart spend £200 in a summer like Shitty or Chelshit or PSG. It was built, piece by piece.

Taggart built a big club into a monster over 20 years. Porto and Inter were better bases to build success that Man Utd were in 1990.

Until Taggart took over, Porto and Inter were bigger clubs than Man Utd.

That's the point. To claim no-one gave a second thought to Porto or Inter in 1990 was nonsense.

So Porto and Inter were irrelevant in 2004 and 2011?

    Seriously... ^

lets say Cristiano Ronaldo says he's unhappy at Real Madrid ... Wants a transfer... Anybody think Porto or Inter could afford to bid on him and pay his salary? Anybody doubt that Chelski could?

"Big Club" is irrelevant when you're talking about the financial realities of the sport... Celtic is "a bigger club" than Monaco by the Feebs measurement ... The difference is that we couldn't afford any of monaco's starting 11... If a guy won the European Cup with Monaco, would that be a bigger accomplishment than winning it with Celtic? Only if you are a complete nutter

Well said. Plus Feebs (as well as yourself and Hut) consistently makes the (absolutely valid) point about players leaving a historically great club like Celtic to go to clubs like Norwich and Hull. They're not going for the history. Do you think QPR and Southampton would be loaning players out to AC Milan and Juventus in 1990? C'mon

I'm going to have to sneak peeks at it because Thursday is Thanksgiving (an American holiday involving Turkeys) so I'll be forced to spend a perfectly good day off hanging out with my brother and his daft family

The only thing Chelshit have more of than Porto or Inter is money. They have won less, have a lesser history, smaller stadium, lower attendances, smaller fan base etc...

Like seriously - anyone who thinks Chelshit is a bigger club than Internationale is mental. In the last twenty years Inter have won copious titles in one of the 'big four' leagues, four European trophies and they've won precisely the same amount of European Cups as Chelshit have in the last decade.

This isn't Ajax or some other fallen giant. It's Inter friggin' Milan.
