You're right, he was, but I don't see how that's relevant. People didn't know how good Ward was until he beat the shit out of Kessler.

Garcia went on to establish himself as the man at 140. Knocked Khan the fuck out, then beat everyone put in front of him since, including Lucas, who most people seemed to think was the best 140 pounder in town.

So a dominant victory in a Garcia rematch would be 100 times more impressive than dominating Alexander, needless to say.

I'm watching the fight now, halfway through, and I agree with you. I think this is the best Khan has looked. As dominant as the Judah and Paulie wins, but more composed.

The main criticisms of Khan have been his leap amateur, button mashing style, and his chin.

He is definitely more composed in this fight, and thoughtful was a word I was going to use. A lot more thoughtful than usual at least, seems to be thinking about what he's doing most of the time. No, his offense is nowhere near as inventive and clever as our beloved Gaybox for example, but it's better than usual. Less rushing across the ring, spamming punches, off balance, with his chin in the air, at random intervals

And he seems to look a bit sturdier at 147. Maybe he suits being a WW more. Alexander has landed a couple of clean left hands, and they had no effect.

But basically, as per usual he is winning this fight for 2 reasons - speed and range. They are his 2 elite assets, which can work very well in conjunction with his straight punches (to maximise his range) and sheer willingness to throw. He still can't punch at WW, and there's still nothing particularly clever about what he's doing.

And again, it is against Alexander, who is not even a top 10 WW, and is tailor made for Khan. Let's see how composed he is after getting smacked clean by someone like Thurman, or swarmed by someone like Maidana.

I think Khan can dig. It's not one shot power (at least to the head), but as (can't believe I'm saying this) McDogg pointed out, his left to the body is brilliant and can potentially take anybody out.

His button mashing actually opens that punch up. Some opponents simply just elect to use the high guard and wait for the flurry to end but forget about being exposed to that shot.

At this point, there's no fighters at 168 with as much cache as ggg. So the idea he should move up seems silly because the only purpose it would serve would be possibly a tougher fight. But a tougher fight should bring more money and more fame. In this case, it would not.

LOL, what exactly is Khan's signature win?? Please don't say Maidana

What's the degree of victory involved here between GGG and Khan? GGG has utterly smashed his opponents... Khan's big signature victory is a draw to many eyes (including mine)

The same guys that hate on GGG grasp at straws (make him move up and fight Andre Ward) in an effort to find a match they think he might lose yet we are supposed to be comparing him with Khan, who has been defeated three times, twice by comedy KO and who can find lose-able fights in numerous locations without moving up in weight and without facing Mayweather or Pacquiao... The board has lost its mind

That's what I've been arguing with REED about for pages

He's been hailing the Maidana fight as Khan's signature win, and my point has been that if that is Khan's signature win, it's a fucking awful one. A fight that could well have been a draw, with Khan flailing around the ring like an inebriated spastic, hanging on for dear life

Gaybox doesn't have one, but when he does get one, you best believe it will be far better and more impressive than the Maidana "signature win" :kidcool:

When GGG beats Murray, he'll get little credit for it. If he were to beat Cotto/Canelo, he'll get little credit for it. Fact, because Murray's just big and made for GGG. Cotto's too small and past his best and won't compete with him and GGG is miles better than Canelo. Once GGG moves up and starts beating bigger guys, that's when he'll receive more credit. Fact.

It's a shame we didn't get to see Martinez in with GGG, when Martinez was considered the best at 160.

Agreed, but it was the fight to make at one point, and not too long ago either. That matchup got tongues wagging and a win for GGG over Martinez would have earned him much, much more respect. IMO anyway.

I find it very amusing how you guys are debating Khan's and GGG's careers  Two fighters who are completely different in every way possible, and who are at completely different points in their careers.

But what's crazy is that Khan was 160 on fight night vs Alexander. The thought of Khan facing GGG is scary...can you imagine Khan in with GGG?!?! But what's funny about this is, would Khan be GGG's "signature win" if that was to take place any time soon after GGG faces Murray?

Since Khan is now the gratest off are times because he decisioned the legendary devon alexander, he should easily move up and dispatch the mediocre GGG

And yet it's still better than GGG's.

It's funny how Floyd and Manny have renewed their rhetoric about fighting each other and the only one pushing Khan's name is Khan.

Good on Khan though. Like Slice has said in the past, it's refreshing hearing him calling out Floyd and actually believing he can beat him. Khan's right too...he vs Floyd will put bums on seats and will generate genuine intrigue.
