With Obama looking to reduce/eliminate the stupid sanctions we had over the island for 50+ years.....will we have an increase in Cuban boxers..? ...

As I said in a thread I made a few months ago, the talent pool in boxing is already looking up. A few years ago the sport's future looked dire, but the current talent pool is underrated.

STILL not as talented as the 70's, 80's, and 90's, but it's not terrible, except the heavyweights.

Middleweight is pretty crap, and WW is weird, because it's like battle of the mini welters

Most of the best fighters in the world are at welter, but they all small compared to welters of yesteryear. The average height must be like 5'7, even Thurman is 5'7.

But yeah, there are certainly some excellent fighters in boxing these days. Especially Gaybox.

It's definitely got the feel of getting better, I think

I think the sport will look even better in another 10 years or so

Khan will be making his 25th consecutive defense of the title by 2025.

Stylistically, technically, one good thing that could arise from this otherwise barren stretch over the last decade plus, is that young fighters have had two tremendous guys to look to for "how it's done" ... I mean, could a generation of youngsters learning to counter and defend like a Floyd Mayweather or a attack and pressure like a Manny Pacquaio possibly be a bad thing? You could do a lot worse for role models (in the ring, strictly)

It was sad watching Ward try to copycat Roy Jones style....but at least he found his own style...as cancerous to the eye as it mighta been.

Cotto style is somewhat similar to Rosario....less aggressive of course......

Malignaggi is a bit like Camacho....less moving more getting his ass kick though....

Whitaker style is too complex to copy without having the skills...

Cotto and Rosario aren't similar at all style wise, IMO.

Cotto is more a body banging, methodical fighter than Chapo was, and Miggy doesn't have the one-punch fighting ending power Rosario had.

And pleeaassee don't insult Camacho with that comparison. I know Hector was a coke head, and a runner later in his career. But in his early 20's he had truly SPECIAL talent. More talent in one of his balls than Paulie has in his entire body.

Sure, but a lot of that is due to it being totally cosmetic and performed by a guy who thinks his shit is already paid for before he's actually done anything

he might've had more talent in one of his balls than paulie had in his entire body, but paulie had more balls in one of his balls than hector had in his entire body

    ... or something.

Manny Steward used to wax lyrical about how Pernell Whittaker used to kick the shit out of Camacho in the gym. I don't think Manny liked Camacho very much.

He would have wrapped Duran, Loadedgloves, MWS, HutHut and Marcellus Johnson in a cocoon of horror simultaneously

Yeah, and Mickey Ward had more heart than Kostya Tszyu. Does that make him better?

Camacho was a legit top 5 P4P fighter at one point, when the talent pool in the sport was EXTREMELY high.

Paulie's never sniffed the top 30 P4P, in a weaker era.

Paulie did manage to off load his used women, I think that might have helped him crack the top 30.

Camacho was overrated though... He got a lot of hype from whupping bums, washed up names and a guy made to order for his style in Ramirez... Nobody hit him back until Rosario and from there on, the game changed and his flaws were revealed

Granted, I'm with you, he shat from great heights on the likes of Paulie Malignaggi
