Nobody would ever say the League Cup is more prestigious than the FA Cup, it's always been the least respected of the three domestic competitions, that's never going to change

Ah cannae agree wi' that, the FA Cup and League are still fabbie prizes tae win. Ah'm sure clubs like Newcassel and Soothampton widnae turn they noses up at the League Cup. Between '85 and '90 they seemed tae be a lot more prestigious, fer some reason.

Anyhoo, there is an ultra important League Cup game next Sunday... Celtic v Rangers, a 1.30pm kick-off on Sunday 1 February which wull be televised live on BBC Scotland.

John Guidetti could potentially be sold before the game and Griffiths has just been arrested fer singing racist songs, like. Playmaker Commons and defender Virgil van Dyke might alsae be on they wee... Ah wondae if Rangers might have a chance wi' the disruption tae the Celtic team?

I'd like to check it out but looked at the schedule and it's at 7:30 AM local time for me. I don't get out of bed that early on weekends.

Arsenal hanging on like fuck against the mighty Brighton :wack:

The Europa League is far more important than the League Cup or the FA Cup. It offers a route in to the big time for clubs who missed out on the ECL first time around.

The FA Cup and League Cup have varying levels of prestige, depending on who is playing in the final, and what their ambitions are.

But primarily, they are a route to Europe, the Europa League, and all that it offers.

It's thinking like this which leads tae the last o' the poower being given o'er tae UEFA. The FA Cup is the auldest fitba comp in the world, no matter whit Rome says.

I rate myself the oldest man on my block, but I am not sure anyone gives a fuck.

Brendan Rodgers thinks that the FA Cup is most prestigious. Rafa Benitez did not.

I bet Liverpool or Bolton get Man United or Cambridge

My point is that prestige to one manager is indifference to the next.

Right now, the League Cup would be nice for Liverpool.

10 years ago it meant less.

Noo, that's a fair point - tae gadges like Benitez and old Red Nose etc. the FA Cup and League cup seemed tae be distractions. But both cups still mean a lot tae the majority - managers, players and saepporters alike, like. They are still relevant and worthwhile. Och! Ah wiz even excited aboot us winning the Ramsden cup (which we subsequently lost).

The FA Cup is a great competition, but as Feebs and I have always said, it would instantly regain the "magic" if they awarded the winners a Champions League spot and scrapped the 4th spot bollocks.

Yeah I've been a few times. Even lived there for a couple of months when I was a kid. I liked it in summer, but not winter. Hated the constant rain and grey skies. Too depressing for me.

Soonds tae me like Ye're saepporting the poower that awready exists... how's this fer a radical thought, like? Only the Champions o' each European League get tae play. That'd do awee wi' this qualification bollocks OOR Champions havetae go through each season just tae feed the greedy Sais, Spaniards and Seppos! SEE YOU!

No such thing as bad weather, laddie - a sturdy kilt worn in the Highland way will serve Ye through the harshest o' weather - even doubling up as a bivouac when cause is given (just kilting).

Ah used tae work in a pallet yard in Alberta and the temp used tae drop so low even ma cannon balls used tae turn tae brass. Ah hadtae wear felt lined, welly boots wi' platformed soles tae keep ma feet from freezing... Ah looked like McFrankenstein's monster!

Ideally I'd like to see only the Champions and runners-up qualify, I don't have an issue with that. If you're going to have four then it should be the top two teams in the league and the two cup winners (with 3rd and 4th spot in the prem being used if the top two teams win the cups as well). The benefit from that scenario, other than the obvious fact that you're rewarding WINNERS, is that the cups are taken seriously again and you have a more even distribution of CL TV money.

Ah like Yer style, Sly - yer operating wi'in the realms o' reality rather than harking back tae dees o' romance and honour, like Ah am. Ma utopia wid be 1 Champion Team from each country and no 'Europa Parachute' fer they who get knocked oot.

It's actually been a relatively mild winter so far but that's pretty rare. January and February on the Canadian prairies can be outright brutal. Minus 40 degree temperatures for weeks at a time is not uncommon. On the other hand it can get nasty hot in July. Temperatures just as high and sometimes higher than in southern U.S. cities like Phoenix and Miami. That's typically just for 3 or 4 day stretches though. Hot/cold/dry/humid/ we can (and do) get it all. No matter what kind of weather you like you're guaranteed to get at least a couple days of it over the course of a year.

I've been mainly through the U.S. on the way to Mexico when I was younger. So I got to see some things but pretty much just through the car windows. I haven't been to any major American city for more than an evening. There's definitely a lot of places in the U.S. I'd like to see but it's not in the budget right now. Hopefully down the road when I have all the bills paid off i'll be able to do some more travelling.

Ah ken exactly hoo low temps the weather can get as Ah've lived on and off fer six years in Alberta, laddie - some o' that time near proper prarie land. Ah alsae had tae regularly work ootside in temps o' minus 20 degrees C (did Ye ken that minus 40 is the same on both scales, C and F?).

That is interesting Ye made Ye way through the States tae Mexico - which province did Ye set off from? Mustae taken Yeez a week tae get there! Ah've visited a few places in the US but never Mexico, did Ye like it there?

Incidentally, when the time is right, Ah hope Ye make yer way tae Dortmund tae watch a game. Germany is braw!

I think yer true here, Mr. Slice. Also - winning cups would be much harder to monopolize year after year with much more scope for dark horses to spread the money around a bit, which imo should be the biggest objective of any reform, no.
