Don Jon Joseph Gordon-Levitt pulls an Orson Welles in his first feature film as writer, director, actor with the splendid Don Jon, one of the most original, down to earth, crude and funny drama you'll ever watch. The film is a triumph in all aspects and Gordon-Levitt deserves all the credit for it. In case you don't know the plot is about this average Joe called Don Jon whose most important things in life are his pad, his friends, his family, his church, his girls and above all, his porn. Everything to go fine until Don meets this hot number (Scarlett Johansen) who unlike all his previous conquests refuses to be a one night stand and deprives him of pussy. Of course Don Jon wanks at the idea of getting her and a series of situations happens until he begins to realize that his pastime is in fact an addiction, that he really can't quit. Excellent performance by Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Don Jon as well as Scarlett Johanssen and Julianne Moore. Tony Danza is also memorable as Don's father. This is one brilliant movie that due to its subject theme didn't achieve much at the box office and that you need to watch when the kids are sleeping. Highly recommended.9/10
Reviews are very partial. Each one is entitled to their own opinion. The movie was raved by the majority of critics and many audience members plain hated it. It is like 'The Graduate' which did not crack the top 25 All Time Greatest Movie list from The American Film Institute in 1977, but just a few years ago a new generation of voters ranked it as #1 (I still think Citizen Kane is 20 times better than 'The Graduate'). I stand by my review and my enjoyment of 'Don Jon'.
Fun little movie, but nothing "Brilliant" about it. The plot was weak and aimless. Acting was okay, but they didn't really have anything to work with. 9/10 is ludacris. This movie at best is 6/10
Panchy seems to be getting a little over enthused or something with his reviews. It's like when he gave that mediocre Europa Report an 8.
It was pretty good. Before I saw this, I thought Scarlett Johannson looked pretty good, but not that hot like a lot of others think. I changed my mind after this movie. 7/10
Don John is honest to God one of the worst movies in cinematic history. No exaggeration, it's at least top 10. 9/10????? Did you watch it high on PCP?
