My original claim, which you have not refuted, not that you could, in fairness, is that black people will be rooting for Floyd.

I still reckon Reed will be a PBF fan come the hour.

But even if he wasn't, it will not materially alter the fundament of my original claim.

Tribalism isn't blind. Besides, Floyd is also American. I can't explain why Floyd appeals so much to the {admittedly narrow, relatively speaking} class of black people that I have spoken to, and speak to, but he does seem to appeal to them. It could all be simply explained by the fact that he engages with them along the lines of the bling and the money and all that shit.

But most of these people either live, work or have grown up in the shadow of Canary Wharf in Londons Docklands, itself the very epitome of the vulgar "money" mentality and they are not clamouring to join in.

Bernard Hopkins had it LARGELY accurate when he referred to tribalism in boxing.

Why are people in the Phillipines rooting for Manny.....they identify with him.

Ditto Floyd, and for me, race plays no small part in that.

That is all true, I think the disagreement started when you assumed that pretty much ALL black people are rooting for Floyd.

Given what an utter twat Floyd is, there must be a huge portion of black people that don't like him, even if they would have ideally liked to support their supremely talented brethren.

The notion that there is some sort of a huge festering population of black folk out there desperate to see this guy lose for the betterment of black educational standards is pathetic.

REED has been pretty much a straight shooter when it comes to Floyd. Color has no influence on the analysis being done. He saw through the bullshit and has been critical of it regardless...

 

I agree. The analysis of how the fight came to be, and how it will be decided, is pretty objective.

But I still say that every black person I have spoken to will root for Floyd, and that for all intents and purposes, all black people will.

Exceptions will be few as to make no odds to the strength of my general premise.

 

I don't know that Floyd is more famous in the U.S. than Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. I don't know anyone who doesn't know who they are....non-sports fans, old ladies, kids, etc...

 

Who will Reed be rooting for I don't know, and it's entirely up to him and wouldn't hold it against him if he did root for Floyd. I will be rooting for Pacquaio, not because Floyd is black. I wish and hope everyday we move from viewing or judging a person because of their race, religious or sexual background. There is no inferiority of any race, only a lack of vision, or lack of hard work. African-Americans in our world had to prove themselves and have done so in all areas. Medicine, literature, arts, sports and some even could be President of these United States...

Floyd's hard work and dedication have never been an issue. He works harder than anybody and always comes better prepared. It's other issues that posters, regardless of his background, have criticized him for and will rank him appropriately when it's all said and done.

 

As I said earlier, according to Google they're neck and neck.

And in this internet age, I think Google traffic is a pretty legit comparison.
