Wenger is a great manager and the last 8/9 years don't make a huge difference to that IMO. He's kept Arsenal competitive in the face of the most obscene financial doping imaginable, which is something that no other club save Man Utd (the biggest club in the world at the time and now in a second season of non-competitiveness), and by the end of this season during these 'barren' years he'll probably have a second successive FA Cup in the bag.

He's not in the Fergie category, but he's still a fantastic manager who would have won a lot more if lesser clubs hadn't benefited from the football equivalent of being injected with the greatest PED's in the history of the universe.

You gotta look at whats actually been spent though. Do we have tables comparing incomings and outgoings among the biggest clubs over the last 10 years? And wage bills?

    Suarez.

I'd be very surprised if BBC sacked Clarkson, I never watch it and am not particularly fond of the guy but Top Gear is one of the protected brands and money-spinners (along with Dr Who, Strictly and Sherlock), and that's mainly down to Clarkson.

PSG is just another oil money club so there is no reason to root for them but i hope they at least score one so Mourinho has to move the bus.

A title challenge. He doesn't even have to win it, just provide a genuine threat to the oil clubs for a change instead of bending over. I really don't want a Chelsea-City duopoly for the next ten years.

Sorry Joe, I saw this post earlier and meant to reply.

I think the financing of the stadium should be taken into consideration as a way to explain the lack of silverware, for sure, but I don't think it's a good enough excuse overall, really. A club as great as Arsenal, with the fan base they have, should at least be competitive. They're not, when people say "Arsenal might win the league this year" the reaction is usually laughter. That's not good enough, no matter how well he manages the clubs finances.

You are right that Ferguson left United with a shit squad, but he also left them as league champions. That just underpins his greatness, really.

With regards to Mourinho, I truly hate the guy for obvious reasons, but even I have to admit that he is a great manager. I don't put much weight into what he's done at Chelsea or Real as they both have unlimited funds (and he still underachieved at both, when you think about it), but his achievements at Porto and Inter aren't to be scoffed at. He's an excellent manager and a very good (if ugly, a lot of the time) tactician. Better than Wenger I'd say, he knows how to pull results out of the fire. Wenger is all about the beauty of the game, wonderful football when his sides are in full flow, but if teams make it ugly or bully Arsenal he can be lost for ideas.

Arsenal have had title challenges over that time, though. Not every year, but some years. You cannot pin that against Wenger - Shitty have spent HALF A BILLION QUID to win two of the last three league titles. The fuck you supposed to compete year on year with that?

This Chelshit game, BTW, is precisely the kind of thing that has near finished my enjoyment of the game I grew up with and loved dearly. Two shitty little financially doped clubs who have spent about a squillion pounds between them to 'elevate' them to near the summit of the game present sides full of snide, spiteful, bitter, cheating bastards, competing desperately to see who can out-cheat each other. I hope all their fucking legs fall off, the cunts.

Yeah it's shit. I rarely even watch these teams, especially when they go against each other. It's not like a boxing match where if you dislike both guys you at least get to potentially see one of them getting knocked unconscious.

PSG has to play with 10 men into extra time (minus the Zlatan no less) and beats Chelski.

Shite. Overpaid. Overhyped. Overrated. Snide. Boring. Garbage.

Hilarious. How long until the English co-efficient falls to three CL teams? Can't be much longer - the decline has been set in a few years now...

Don't get me wrong. PSG are every bit as disgusting as the other cheating, doping clubs. But Chelshit will always be the original scum cunt club. Fuck them and their fucking bullshit 'messiah'.

BBC Radio 5 live commentator Alan Green: "Never in a month of Sundays was this an acceptable game of football."

You aint kidding you daft fat cunt. It was a horrible, snide game of cheat-oneupmanship. That's what a billion notes buys, I suppose. 'Professionalism'.

It would have been much sweeter if it had been a team like Basel that knocked them out but I guess we have to take what we can get. Mourinho is going to be crying like a 4 year old girl. :partie:

'We are miles away, the Premier League. We are being kidded' - Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

To be fair, Carragher hasn't been a pundit for very long and he knows what it takes to win this competition
