Collins was certainly a durable guy... If he can sponge the punishment he's guaranteed to take, he could make it interesting... It's hard to say, nobody's ever been in any shape to resist Gaybox once he's begun punching them
Even if Collins could withstand Gaybox's power, G is still the more accurate and technically gifted of the two. I doubt GGG gets him outta there. But I think he counters Collins with some shit that stuns him and makes him enough cautious to not rush in. What'd be interesting is if Collins could just walk through GGG's power, and use his strength to push him back.
Mike McCallum, Sumbu Kalamby, Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn, Reggie Johnson, just some of the guys who couldn't knock Collins out. So yeah I give GGG a good chance of knocking him out, because I saw GGG on tele the other day and he looked good.
I think it's a bit ridiculous that Xplosive believes Golovkin would take out Collins in the 1st round.
Also, GGG clearly hits harder than everyone you named save Benn, whose offensive game was completely different anyway
A lot of Benn's power was generated by the snap, and velocity of his shots. See the Dewitt fight for example. By time Collins got to him, Benn was a sloth and no longer had the same snap on his power punches. Therefore, less power.
Feather Fisted Mike McCallum...........a fight in which Collins finished stronger. GGG and Kovalev....its like people are trying to MAKE UP for all the nasty shit that was said about Oleg Maskaev or Kostya Tszyu Over-Compensation. Collins is no fucking Matthew Macklin I can assure you.
Collins had a damn good chin, but he could be hurt. GGG could hurt him. KEEP him hurt? Probably not. Collins was tough and crafty enough to hang tough. But let's not ignore who's the better technician and superior talent in this matchup.
GGG has had precisely no world title fights at 168 (I presume that is where this fight is taking place?) and has fought absolutely no-one of Collins' calibre. There are plenty of hard hitting 160lbers whose power didn't carry to to 168 (Benn, Pavlik, Abraham, McClellan to name four obvious examples) - I'd like to see him actually hit people at that weight before deciding if he can KO one of the most durable 168lbers of the last thirty years. I'd also say that Eubank hit has hard as GGG did. Watson, Benn, Eubanks, Collins, Kalambay, McCallum, Johnson et al are a lot, and I do mean a FUCKING LOT, better than Daniel Geale and Martin Murray. Like several leagues better. MTF
It's because MW has been absolutely fucking SHIT for years. The last decent MW turned out to be an alki. GGG is being feted, partially because he is an obviously very good middleweight but also because he is the first very good middleweight in over a decade. Kovalev is in the same boat - the best LHW for years in a marquee division which has had utter shite like Doorscrub, Pascal and an ancient has-been hoovering up titles. They can both hit, which also helps. MTF
Mike McCallum was not a big puncher at middleweight ... He's got one big KO win at 160 over Watson whom he must have hit about 900 times GGG clearly hit harder
Mike McCallum was, IMO, clearly BETTER than GGG is, though. That's why he was able to land 900 punches on Watson, who was also a very good fighter. MTF
People respect GGG and Kovalev because they are good fighters ... Nobody gives a fuck about where they're from ... Oleg Maskaev? A second tier heavyweight in a shit era? Who's mean about him? How often does he even get discussed? Most derision centers on his chin which was definitely sub-par. The only guy here who has nothing good to say about Tszyu is mws
I'm surprised X is so adamant that GGG would "easily knock Collins out without any problem and in no way would this be against precedent. Nor is there any line of reasoning to argue otherwise." That sounds pretty absolutist on X's part.
It's hard to know how good GGG is, considering the shit opposition he fought, but we knows that Collins was a cut below the elite. I have a hunch that GGG is elite, so I would pick him
