I looked for the plot in IMDB and it said in development. Then I realized how much that trailer looked more like a video game so I checked the comments on the Youtube page and it turns out it is a proof of concept video, meaning it's a pitch to a studio and not scenes from an actual film. That's a dumb premise anyway. There is no way we could actually get to another solar system using faster than light speed. If we hit a speck of dust it'd destroy the ship, plus flying through space you don't exactly get space brakes that let you just come to a stop. In order to stop you'd have to use the same amount of force that shot you through space to slow you down and stop. I think worm holes are the only way to truly get from here to other solar systems. That or other technology not yet invented.
The creative team behind this project made this teaser trailer to lure Hollywood studios to pick up and greenlight this movie production as many studio executives failed to see the potential of this story. Sure, it is alien whale hunting, but wasn't AVATAR just POCAHONTAS in another planet and still made billions of dollars? Keep in mind that what finally greenlighted the DEADPOOL movie was when a teaser short was leaked online and went viral. I prefer to see this movie made more than any reboot, remake or sequel now in production.
True. Financially, it's a risk. But Hollywood needs more risks like that if they want to open up the market to new things. Just like LOTR did back then for the fantasy genre.
Yup. Whoever picks this will need real cojones to fight for this project to be done on a proper budget since after the fiasco of JUPITER ASCENDING studios will think twice before giving the green light to another original scifi movie.
Studios need to realize that Jupiter Ascending's trailer didn't appear to offer anything but pretty visuals and a hero that looked like a fucking retard.
