Fonfara looked bigger and stronger from the off. Junior very boyish in build and looks in comparison.

Chavez Sr didn't want his son facing Fonfara and now we know why.

Chumpez should just retire. There's not a single quality fighter from 168-175 that he could beat, and there's no big money fights for him.

Why can't Froch-Chavez Jr still happen? Junior must still have thousands of fans, even if he did quit against Fonfara. Could still make both fighters a fair bit of dough.

Yeah, from Memory, there were 3-4 Rounds where Mattttttthhhhhhhhyyyyysssssse Beat the Living Shit Out of Provodnikov, to the Degree it Seemed DOUBTFUL Dude would Last the Distance...

It's AMAZING Provo Did, yet it Doesn't Diminish How 1-Sided the Fight was for Stretches...

What a let down. I didn't enjoy the fight at all. Provodnikov doesn't know how to fight, and Mathysse spoiled for the last several rounds.

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Really, you thought it was that much of a let down? I thought it was a very good fight. Second half a bit disappointing, but still good, still enough action, and Provo somehow always seemed dangerous and actually finished stronger.

I was half kidding, but it's really not far off base.

Like a huge, rugged, indestructable tanker, the FFH Provo was determined to reach its destination, it just ran out of time. There is a great chance the FFH Provo would be sounding its arrival horn by the 15th round :kidcool:

I agree with Steve Dave. It was a letdown

It was only a letdown considering it was being compared to Corrales-Castillo. But fights like Corrales-Castillo come around EXTREMELY rarely.

It was a good fight. Not a great one. So I guess in that sense it was a letdown.

Chavez Jr is SOOOOOO BAD that I think coke head Joe Calzaghe could make a come back and beat him.

At this point, why would anyone even wanna see him in a high profile fight?

There's not much of a doubt about that.

If Calz made a comeback and got into even half way decent shape, he would easily beat Junior.

    Yeah I don't see it.

He fought out of his natural division and tried to make a name fighting smaller guys.

Had Jr competed at 168, he'd have a few KO losses on his resume by now.

I'll meet you blokes halfway ... It was a tad disappointing ... What I'd say is that it was compelling but not exciting

It had the feeling of an inevitable fait-accomplit by the end of the 6th round, for me.

Matty ran too much. I wanted a Corrales - Castillo kind of brawl.

Yup. Ran, held... way too much spoiling. The more I think about it, Mathysse is a disgrace. Extremely cowardly performance.

Yeah, I dig. Lots of lulls, but fairly violent at times.

If he engaged in this type of fight with Provo, Matty gets iced.

Chavez Jr is such a bitch it's unbelievable, frequently complaining to the ref about being punched, literally, I mean wtf :atu:

Also, Sherdog scored rounds 2, 3, and 4 for Chavez. He must have done some really good wrestling, or scored a couple of takedowns that I missed

Agreed. My impression early to mid was that it was really good, but it did have that sense of inevitability about it. The FFH Provo was trying its darndest, but Lucas was too in control most of the time.

I do feel sorry for Provo, the guy has the heart and courage of an absolute champion, he's a true fighter, but he just lacks the skills and refinement of an elite fighter.

Look at the guy kissing his fucking hand in the link I posted.

    Don Chavezleone.

Paulies commentary was good...Fonfara did that thing, changing southpaw at point blank range so he could wing in a left hook with loads of leverage on it.

Me too obviously, but I think my expectations were lower than you guys'. Often great matchups on paper turned out to be a bit disappointing, so I adjust my expectations.

Let's be honest, there might NEVER be another fight quite like Corrales-Castillo 1 again.

I wasn't expecting a Corrales-Castillo outta this fight. I'm just somewhat surprised that the fight lasted the distance.

There were times when Matty Ice was seeing off on Provo, and it looked as if Provo was about to go out Tito-Campas style.

But to his credit, FFH Provo does indeed have an unreal chin. Probably the best chin in boxing - I don't think even Rios would have survived that Matty Ice onsluaght.
