That first Castillo fight took so much out of Corrales. It didn't help that he appeared to always struggle with making weight. He should have never gotten in the ring with Castillo that night of the rematch. He should hve just taken a long rest and gone to 140. Going up to face Clottey was never a good idea.
You're using a height listing to argue in the most futile fashion possible that one fighter is not undersized :: Even if the height listing is correct, it's still a ludicrous argument. It doesn't matter how big Gamboa is compared to Freitas FFS, all that matters is how big Gamboa is compared to Crawford. Several of us noted at the time, in the fight thread, that Gamboa looked/seemed several divisions smaller, at least. It basically looked like a featherweight Vs a 140 pounder, for all intents and purposes that's what it was. And again, nothing to do with this ludicrous argument, I said at the time the size difference was the turning point in the fight. Gamboa simply could not hurt the bigger man, his power - unsurprisingly - didn't carry up to 135, because he's too fucking small. If they were the same size, it's a different fight. "Fought in different eras of broadcast quality" :atu: What are you trying to suggest TLC, that in SD you can't fucking tell how tall a fighter is compared to another? Jesus christ :: That's one of the dumbest things that has ever been posted on Fightbeat. Corrales was obviously a big 130 pounder, but nowhere near as big as you were making out. More like a lightweight boiling down to 130. Nothing like your boy scrubby Chavez at 160, twice the fucking size of most of his opponents. He was taller than his opponents, but also much skinnier, with tiny little t-rex arms, and about a 27 inch waist. TBH Caballero looked clearly bigger for his weight class, so did Hearns, if we're talking tall fighters. Chico was more like Morales at 122, a good frame for the weight, but by no means huge, too skinny for that.
We're arguing with someone who thinks Kovalev is a scrub, and that Chavez Jr is good :: Sometimes I think TLC is alright, but his taste/knowledge of boxing is literally terrible, he doesn't know what he's watching.
I never said either of those things. I simply don't like Kovalev. Also, saying he's garbage is hyperbolic but of all the non-garbage fighters that have been called garbage here I wouldn't throw my arms up over Diego Corralles of all people. He had no standout skills except punching power. Derrick Gainer could've beaten him if he didn't fight like an idiot. However I will concede that if Crawford fought like Gainer did he would probably be knocked out. I also never said Crawford wasn't bigger than Gamboa and didn't have a huge advantage from fighting someone smaller than him. Im simply suggesting you cannot bash him and then praise Corralles who also mostly fought Super Featherweights coming up in weight at 135. I have never seen the Freitas fight so I will use official height listings.
