Cool. I'm out again after this final post (it's been fun y'all...I'm looking forward to this fight)

This is just bias, Xplosive. You don't like Floyd. You are notorious on this site for picking people based on who you like (YOU picked Lacy over Calzaghe, Pavlik over Hopkins as well as a whole host of other silly predictions for the same reasons). Also you are notorious in MMs for picking guys from the 80s over contemporary or else guys you simply just like. You have no credibility in picking fights. I do.

    Floyd vs Duran

Duran is shorter than Floyd, significantly less reach. Is there is precedent for Duran being outboxed by a master boxer? Yes....Benitez, Leonard II and Hearns. Shit...even Kirkland Laing outboxed him (and Duran was still relatively young). Floyd will hit Duran at a higher percentage than in return. Floyd will frustrate Duran with movement. We're talking Floyd at his Welterweight best here...not teh old man who fought Cotto and beyond. Floyd has proven stamina, proven chin and enough power to keep anyone honest.

    Floyd vs Leonard

I agree that Leonard wins. But mismatch? Don't be ridiculous. Mayweather is more elusive and smarter than Leonard, That counts for something. Leonard wins on workrate only..and in a close decision. Ray does NOT stop Mayweather. That's ridiculous. He barely stopped Hearns and Mayweather has a better chin than Tommy and even more elusive. If Ray punched as hard as people now try to pretend he does he would have KNOCKED OUT Hearns..not stopped him on his feet when hearns was tiring. He would have knocked out Duran. Ray was a solid puncher not a devastating one. Would take a Hearns' level puncher to stop Floyd.

    Floyd vs Hearns

I agree that Hearns wins. BAAAAAAAAD style matchup for Floyd at 147lbs. P4P (imagine a Hearns the size of Corrales) Mayweather would have stopped him...but at 147lbs. Hearns wins. hearns wins a clear decision...but doesn't knock him out. If Benitez could survive Hearns...Mayweather could and then some.

Hearns breaking his hand had a lot to do with Benitez surviving... Of course he'd beat Mayweather down at 154, himself

As if Floyd would beat Duran

Pressure fighters have always been Floyd's weak point, all the way back to average, little ones, like Chavez and Carlos Hernandez.

Duran would be a fucking awful style matchup for Floyd, he'd bully Floyd around all night, slow him down with body shots, trap him on the ropes, and beat him up.

i think duran could beat him, but dunno how those two fights give you any indication. between them chavez and hernandez won maybe 2 rounds vs mayweather jr.

forrests jab would cause mayweather jr big problems. he'd be hesitant and it would be a very dull uneventful fight.

They gave Floyd more problems than other fighters at the time, they each won at least a couple of rounds and weren't completely clowned and whitewashed.

Then of course you have the Castillo fight, and Hatton, and Cotto, and Maidana. All examples of pressure having success against Floyd.

Duran is the best and most intelligent pressure fighter ever, with speed and ridiculous stamina, there is no doubt in my mind he'd beat Floyd.

I don't put any stock in the Hernandez fight... Floyd won that 11-1 or so with busted hands ... As for Chavez, he got picked apart while bulling Mayweather against the ropes, he was stopped... I think Duran could beat Floyd, too but I don't those fights tell us much about what would happen personally

I was surprised at how much success they both had at the time, my perception was they both won a couple of rounds, and make Floyd uncomfortable.

They weren't really meant to be the prime examples anyway, my point was even way back then when Floyd was prime, small, average pressure fighters gave him a decent fight.

Castillo and Cotto are better examples, except of course Duran is 10 times better than both of them.

He won't make that kind of money. That's press release material.

The fight will cost $99.95 in HD...HBO and Showtime are the distributors and put up the money for the fight so they assume the most risk. Mayweather promotions is technically the "lead" promoter but they didn't put up a dime for this fight. Typically the cable companies get 50% of the PPV price but in this case HBO and Showtime are getting 70% of the $99.95 per PPV buy (according to the Wall Street Journal).

With what's left you have to cover expenses like both guys purses etc. I don't know what the breakeven number is but typically PPV shares for fighters doesn't start until that breakeven point has been reached. For example, when Rahman rematched Lemmon he could have taken a flat $15 million fee or a $5 million fee with a portion of the PPV money. The breakeven point was 500,000 buys or so. The fight sold something like 450,000 buys (forget the actual number). So Rahman got nada from the PPV.

Mayweather and Pac will get paid handsomely without a doubt. But their share won't kick in until after that breakeven point has been reached (whether it's 1 million or 2 million buys...don't know the numbers) and even then they'd get $5 per buy if they're lucky. They'll also make money from ticket sales because I'm sure both received an allotment of tickets they'll sell to the secondary market (supposedly Hatton made an additional $3 million off Brit fans that came across the pond to watch his fight with Mayweather.) There are many revenue streams available and I'm sure they'll also get cuts of the closed circuit money but unless the fight generates a billion dollars...neither guy will come close to earning that much money ($100 million).

Oscar made what, $52 million when he fought Mayweather? That split was something like 98 to 2% split in his favor.

Lastly, I laughed when I saw Warren Buffett on one of the previous All Access shows. I said it then and I'll say it again now...Floyd said something to Buffett about doing "bidness" together. Buffett won't do business with anyone that can't pronounce business. Plus, he insulted Floyd and Floyd was too stupid to realize it. Buffett said something like..."if I need a couple extra million I'll give you a call." It was said lightheartedly but to understand how much money Buffett is worth, he made more than a few million in the time it took him to say a few million to Floyd.

Also, Buffett was supposed to walk to the ring with Mayweather but his "bidness" partners warned him against it because it wasn't a good look for him. I'd highly doubt Buffett would have Mayweather in any "bidness" meetings now or in the near future.

Maybe Floyd caught up with "Three Comma Joe" who promised to turn $15 million into a billion. That's how "bidness" savvy Floyd is.

the wall street journal saying the distributors are taking 30% rather than their customary 50% (in actuality its probably closer to 40%) only means MORE money for mayweather jr. there is no way he makes less than 100 million for this.

you were the same guy claiming jones jr would end up with more money than mayweather jr. the 3 comma Joe thing was years back. since then the guy has been doing better with his money.

    "Like I said before"

It's more money for the cable companies. They're assuming the risk by putting on the fight. "Mayweather Promotions" has no financial stake in this unless you're telling me they've gone into their pockets to fund the fight.

We both know that is not the case.

Floyd is still an active fighter in the earning days of his career. Let's see where he is when he's 47 or 48 years old then we can discuss who has more money between he and Jones.

The more money he makes the more he spends...it's just that simple. The other day there was a video with Floyd showing off his Bugatti's...three cars I believe...maybe four. Two of which he called "cheap" Bugatti's at $1.6 million each. So at best we're talking about $5 or $6 million in Bugatti's. That's roughly 1/5 of a fight purse without consideration of the jewlery and other shit he wastes money on.

Did you see the article a couple years ago where Floyd was showing off to the writer by going to an ATM to withdraw cash and showed the reporter the receipt with $100 million in a SIMPLE CHECKING account.

Do you understand how fucking stupid that is?

Floyd isn't any different than the fools that hit the lottery big then are broke in a few years. he's the same kinda person except he hits the lotto every May and September. The best he can hope is he has someone close to him that looks after him the same way someone looked after Allen Iverson where Iverson has $30 something million in a trust fund he can't touch until he's 55.

That's the only way Floyd doesn't end up broke.

thats ridiculous. its more money for the cable companies and the fighters. the pot increases since they got the distributors to take a lesser cut. there is no risk being assumed with this fight. the ppv will do 3 million plus buys which is 300 million. the gate will end up well over 100 million

when mayweather jr is 47 or 48 he will be relaxing and quite wealthy. he wont be fighting in barns in front of a few dozen people.

Finance is what I do. Barring what I said about having a trust fund for money he can't touch, there's no way he doesn't wind up broke at the rate he's spending. We'll revisit this conversation in 10 years though I suspect it won't take that long before there are stories about Mayweather having tax issues.

i dont see his earning power drying up completely even after he retires from boxing next year. if he dominates pacquiao and knocks him out then wins another fight or two before calling it quits he will remain a world wide celebrity, considered as one of the elite athletes alive for eternity. he will still have money making opportunities and i dont think he'll continue spending at this rate when he knows the 8 (and 9 next week) figure paydays are no longer coming.

hasnt been much talk of the tax issues lately either, since he came out of that federal country club. pacquiao on the other hand...

Floyd had zero national endorsements prior to the Ray Rice and anti-domestic violence movement. There's no way in hell any major company will want him to hawk their products.

This is a clear case where his social media presence works against him in terms of image etc. Off camera he;s not a likeable guy...on camera he's worse. Can't see him on Broadway doing his version of "The Undisputed Truth" like Mike Tyson. Which is interesting within itself. As much shit as Tyson has done throughout the years somehow he comes off as a more likeable and somewhat sympathetic figure than Floyd. And Mike's a convicted rapist.

I don't think Floyd will ever get to that level of celebrity/acceptance. Could be wrong but I just can't see it.

Agreed. Tyson is a naturally more likeable and charismatic guy than Floyd. Floyd has done well to become immensely rich and popular, because he seems like a dislikeable cock by nature.
