He has his hands full... Reid was shit but he could move and jab... I'd bet he'd be ahead on the cards after 6 (assuming the judges aren't paid for already) and them it's down to whether or not the red headed Mexican can hurt him enough down the stretch to win it... Felix Trinidad couldn't quite finish the droopy eye man so I see no reason to assume the patently inferior Canelo would either... Reid by close decision win (or loss if the bout takes place within 500 miles of cacti)
I'd favor Reid as well. Reid had the handspeed to befuddle Crapnelo, and a good enough right hand to make the Ginger respect him. Ginger buzzes Reid a few times, but Crapnelo doesn't have any of the fight altering power of Trinidad. Reid by decision. Just puts into perspective how mediocre this junior middle class is as opposed to 16 years ago.
Reid via UD. His hand speed and movement win this fight for him. Canelo is the EPITOME of being stuck in mud while he fights. He would probably buzz Reid a couple times and take a couple rounds but Reid does pack enough pop to keep him from rushing in recklessly.
Ginger is underrated because he was outclassed by mayweather. That's unfair....Mayweather on his best night can outclass many very good fighters. Ginger has his hands full but he wins without a doubt.
Ginger also has the perfect style for Floyd, gives Floyd time to think and dictate pace. Having said that, nothing Ginger has done aside from that has indicated he'd beat Reid, either.
I still think Ginger lost to both Lara and Trout. Never saw anything special about him. I knew Floyd was gonna embarrass him. There is no decent 154 pound champion we've had over the years that I would take Canelo over.
REED's in the Middle when it Comes to Canelo... Sly OVERRATES Him Because it's an Impressive, Recent Win for Floyd...But @ the Same Time a Lot of FightBeaters UNDERRATE Canelo, in REED's Opinion... Dude Won't Be 25 Until July, so there's a VERY High Probability he HASN'T Reached his Prime Yet...44-1-1, 31 KO's & His Resume AIN'T Bad Either...Canelo's 2 or 3 Times More PROVEN than GGG is, for Instance...Think about that; Canelo is like 8 Years YOUNGER than GGG, yet DWARFS his Resume... When a YOUNG Fighter has Some Iffy "Wins" Over the Likes of Trout or Lara, is Completely OUTCLASSED by a Past Prime Mayweather and Weathers the Storm of a Near 1st Round KO Loss to Cotto's Brother, he Can LEARN, IMPROVE & GROW from it... Canelo HASN'T Taken an Overwhelming Amount of Punishment Either, Despite His Inordinate Amount of Bouts (Though 1 HARD Fight w/Kirkland Could Alter that, if Kirkland Still has it In Him)... REED Thinks the NEXT 3-5 Years will Give Boxing Fans a CLEAR Picture of just Who Canelo Alvarez Really Is...Moreso than the Previous 3-5 Have... REED:hammert:
Canelo doesn't have the physical tools to really become anything special. He is what he is, and I think what we're seeing from him now IS his prime. He'll stop Kirkland though.
Having Said All that, David Reid Beats TODAYs Version of Canelo...Taller, More Athletic, Better Puncher...If Reid Landed the Shots Lara & Trout Did, he'd have DROPPED Canelo a Time or 3, for Sure... REED:hammert:
Gotta Agree to DISagree on this 1, Brother X... REED Doesn't Think Anybody in ANY Walk of Life, Boxing Included, "Is Who he Is", 3 Months SHY Of his 25th Birthday... REED:hammert:
Nobody is what they are in LIFE at 25, but in boxing or sports in GENERAL???? Athletes peak mid 20's ALLLL THE TIME. I just don't see where Canelo can improve. Not by a SIGNIFICANT amount anyway. He's always gonna have the same strengths and weaknesses. He'll always do well against stationary guys, yet struggle/lose to top technicians. If YOUR boy Errol Spence has a solid chin, within about another year or two he'll be ready to thrash Crapnelo.
I think they're about the same. Both guys are good boxers but neither has the ability to turn it into a high gear. Both are chinny, and have questionable focus. Reid is faster and more powerful, though. Lara probably has better defense, but he does get hit himself. If they both fought, it would be one of those hard to score kind of fights, with Reid probably just doing enough to get it done.
I think Reid vs Lara could go either way. But I think Reid beats Trout with his superior hand speed and movement. Plus Trout can't hurt Reid nor does he apply any type of pressure.
Agreed, though I think Reid would beat Lara. And Trout seems to have gone downhill since Canelo and Cotto. Lara is a guy who LOOKS much better than he is. He has plenty of talent and skill, but just kind of sucks. He was fighting on even terms against Angulo ffs, and looked kind of crap against Canelo too. He lacks focus/mental strength, something.
Physically talented but sort of disinterested, he reminds me of a more skilled version of Clottey or Augustus...you can see he has it in him to do the job, likewise you can see him mess it up.
Agreed... He has the am pedigree and schooling but he's never made that translate into sustained excellence in the pros
I think he's a little too cocky. Kinda like Gamboa. Lara also doesn't appear to deal well with getting hit. He gets uncomfortable and rattled mentally when he does and I think that's what makes him fight ultra defensively when he does. But the talent and skill are there. I think he just lacks a bit of heart, honestly.
