There's a myriad of reasons why boxing will always have more mainstream appeal than MMA.

One of the BIGGEST is diversity.

Let's be VERY blunt - UFC is mostly a fan base comprised of young, white males. I don't know of any minorities who follow UFC.

I know people of ALL races who follow boxing though. Maybe not HARDCORE like us, but they know enough to hold a semi-intelligent boxing conversation.

And I see MORE of that today than was the case 10 years ago, which is why I keep saying boxing is very much alive.

Boxing appeals to ALL races, and thanks to guys like GGG, and Pac, now more than ever.

You have crossover Euro, and Asian stars emerging, and you'll still ALWAYS have talented black and Hispanics around also.

I'd bet my house that they'll NEVER be an MMA fight as big as Mayweather-Pacquiao. That fact must make TFK sick.

Why did you have to go...there?

Race has little to do with it.

It's because MMA is too unpredictable and random by nature. It's not a science quite on the level of boxing. A fighter that is clearly inferiror to his opponent can win the fight simply by a quick choke or armbar or other submission, or kick to the head (which no one can take) or a random ground and pound opportunity. To random..can end at any moment. No ral poetry in motion or grace and elegance. All this grappling on the ground is tedious as well. Zero replay value in the sport.

This IS correct, and is another HUGE factor. However, DIVERSITY is a factor. I didn't mean RACE per say, that would mean that only white guys participate in UFC. That's not the case, but it DOES seem like only white guys follow it.

Then, of course, you have the HUUGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE disparity in earning potential.

UFC SUPER STARS get paid less than a SEMI-star in boxing.

I find that boxing has more mainstream appeal today than it did 10-15 years just in casual conversations I hear and have in everyday life. I rarely overheard boxing casual boxing conversations 10-15 years, and when I did, it was usually some dumbass askin "So when is De La Hoya gonna fight Tyson?"

I don't hear such dumbass statements anymore. I think more people have a GENERAL idea of the dynamics of boxing in 2015, and thus are able to carry more intelligent boxing debates. AND I hear boxing brought up more frequently.

PERFECT example - was in the barber shop last Saturday. The barber next to me and a kid he was cutting, who couldn't have been any older than 25, were talkin about the fight. I automatically assumed the kid wouldn't know what the Hell he was talkin about and that I would have to jump in and embarrass him. But he opened his mouth and said, almost word-for-word....... "Floyd is gonna take Pac into deep waters and drown him like he did Ricky Hatton. And Pac, he ain't been the same since he beat up Margarito a few years ago. I just hope that Khan doesn't get to fight the winner. All he does is hold since Danny Garcia knocked him out, and Freddie Roach couldn't help him so now he's with the guy who trains Andre Ward."

And I just smiled............... NEVER woulda heard a kid in the barber shop that knowledgeable 10-15 years ago.

    Nice.

Yes, UFC has had its time in the sun, but it is by nature just a niche sport...and quite frankly its long term appeal is only with sadistic violent criminal types! lol It was popular for a time because it was something new, but it never truly threatened boxing...and never will.

It was refreshing to say the least. The barber knew his shit too, because he said something to effect of "If you have problems with Timothy Bradley, who's a gusty fighter but not a great fighter, then you can't handle Floyd. He's too good technically."

I didn't say a word. I was waiting for one of them to say some novice shit about the sport like "Remember when Pacquiao fought Roy Jones?" but there was none of it. They both had a pretty good grasp of what they were talkin about, and I never used to hear that.

What's Being Missed Here is, The MONEY is Such Because Floyd and Pac NEED Each Other...The World Wanted to See them in the Ring TOGETHER, Moreso than Any Other Bout Either's Participated In...

Even w/Pac Getting LESS of a Cut than he Probably Warrants, May 2nd, 2015 will Easily Be THE Highest Take of his Boxing Career...Ditto for "Money" Mayweather...

Only Way BOTH Fighters Match their Current Guarantee, for a RE, is if the Fight Itself MATCHES the Build Up...A Controversial Verdict, In & Of Itself, WON'T Do it...It'll Have to Be an ENTERTAINING Fight w/a Controversial Verdict, to Accomplish That...If Either Man Obliterates the Other, the Money's Even LESS...

& Please Believe, if Floyd/Pac Face Anybody Else in their Next Bouts, they'll Make CONSIDERABLY Less...Won't Be Any $99.95 PPV's Either...

The Finances are ABSURD for Mayweather-Pac, but REED Doesn't Believe for a Second that'll Become the NORM...Definitely Not in the Foreseeable Future of Boxing...

I don't know about that Sly. I watched Anderson's leg break in half about 200 times. Showed it to everyone I could in order to see their reactions of shock!

Admittedly, REED's Pretty CLOSE to Being a Hardcore MMA Fan...Whatever that Level is btwn Hardcore and MAINSTREAM/CASUAL, is where REED Resides....Only Met (As in Face to Face) about 5 People that APPRECIATE Boxing and MMA Simultaneously, but REED's Amongst Them...

Particularly in the States, it's Primarily a White, Frat-Boy Type of Scene, but Still, there's Plenty of Light/Dark Skinned Brazilians and Ever GROWING Numbers of Euro's, Hispanics and American Blecks Partaking...

Boxing and MMA EASILY Coexist in REED's Combative Sports World, Dating Back Nearly 10 YEARS Now...

What's better than the actual fight is the hype leading to the fight itself. Boxing will live forever.

They have to fight each other to get the kind of PPV buys may/pac get with each of their fights.

It makes perfect sense TFK is an MMA fan, since the American MMA fanbase is entirely latently homosexual suburban fratboys

Btw, when has Pacquiao ever been in a boring fight? I don't understand why this is a concern for people. Floyd is rarely boring himself. Even if he wanted to play safety first in this fight, do you think Pac is going to lie down for it? Pac will press and press and especially in this fight, he's the type of guy who'd rather get KO'd than lose a decision because he didn't take a chance. This will be a great fight.

I think it's a legit question. If the fight stinks and casual punters spend $100 on a PPV, they'd be less likely to do it again.

I dont understand all the "shit thread" this and "terrible thread" that. Dont post in the thread if you think it's stupid. NO need to jump down another posters' back just because he asked a legit question. Everyone is excited about the fight. Why ruin someone's board experience due to past beef?

My original question has nothing to do with MMA, not sure why you think me being a fan of it would mean anything.

Why would that make me sick? Why would you think it would bother me in the least?

Because I'm an MMA fan that means I'm not a boxing fan? I'm not as big a fan of the sport as I was years ago, but I still love it. Why wouldn't I want to see it succeed? I've been thrilled to hear people on sports radio actually talk about boxing, and in a good light, this last week.

I'm a baseball fan, should it bother me that the World Series will never touch the ratings the Superbowl is getting?

    You guys are weird.
