A carefully crafted impression is being hewn and sewn, particularly in corners of British Boxing, to the effect that DeGale is some sort of an Uber-Talented Black Southpaw Powerhouse, Naseem-Hamed-Johnny-Ryan-Nelson-Rhodes-Ali clone who is just bursting for his shot at the title and is being held back by {racial} politics, aimed at protecting the slow, useless, bummish white champ who only fights in Nottingham on Christmas Eve against one-armed and half-blind bums. Lets look at the reality: He got a British Title shot after just 8 fights against one of the weakest British Champs in recent memory. He never successfully defended it. He beat some guy called Alpay Kobal then lost to George Groves. His mind was so full of shit that when the commentator announced and "And Still Undefeated...." that he started celebrating....forgetting that Groves had gone into the fight undefeated too. That's how heavy the promotion favoured DeGale.... What's he done since....fight a miscellany of no-marks and bums and retreads. Zuniga...right...the same Zuniga that was obliterated by Kelly Pavlik YEARS AGO....goes the distance. Right after the Groves farce....he barely gets past some Polish bum who went on to lose to Abraham. Look at these names......Periban, Gonzalez, Dyah Davis...who are these people :dunno: And then into the middle of it all wades Ambrosia Mendy.....
Silas is mimicking Ambrose Mendy when he plays this "Froch is avoiding DeGale like Calzaghe avoided Froch". Its right up there with the "Witter had Hatton terrified" line. Froch doesn't want anything to do with a running bum who might make him have to work all night, like Dirrell did. He wanted the big, glitzy payday with Chavez Jr in Las Vegas and I cannot blame him.
Mendy is the same as Shaw in my book, a div that nobody really listens to. In all honesty I can't remember a single thing the guy has said since he became Chunky's manager. He's irrelevant. My issue with Froch is the whole refusing to shit or get off the pot. Once the Chavez fight fell through and Golovkin was ruled out (by Carl) there was only one fight out there which made sense from a financial perspective. Don't fancy it and want to retire? That's fine, I absolutely respect what Froch has done in his career but he was out of order holding the belt hostage. Just retire instead of stringing everybody along.
With regards to the no-names, that's because he was being looked after by fat Mick Hennessey (who couldn't promote a cure for cancer), fighting in front of 20 people in Westfield. He'd lost interest and was still recuperating from a hip injury. Since he's switched to Hearn and had time to properly rehabilitate he's looked fantastic.
Both Froch and Calzaghe as well as Benn and Watson have said DeGale is a fantastic talent, they all know.
From what I've seen of DeGale, he isn't without talent. But I see far more flash than actual substance. Being that Froch isn't the fighter he once was, I could possibly see DeGale beating him at this point. BUT, I don't give a shit if Froch doesn't fight him. Faggot ass DeGale doesn't deserve a big fight.
Why not? He's done everything asked of him, and is going out to the States to take on a dangerous guy like Dirrell in his own back yard
I expect DeGale to beat Dirrell, but that'll still mean nothing. The Dirrell of today is not the Dirrell of 6 years ago who outboxed Froch and AA. I'm not sure how much Farmer Froch has left at this point. My guess is probably not much. But if you take the Froch of years ago who exposed Bute, he'd beat ten shades of shit outta DeGarbage.
I don't see anything DeGale brings that Bute didn't have back then. Difference being, Bute was a bigger puncher. Like Bute, DeGale screams of a guy with a dodgy chin. He's not especially mobile, nor is he a defensive specialist. Prime Froch would thrash him. AND, if this was the Dirrell of 6 years he'd thrash DeGarbage also. DeGarbage has come around a PERFECT time though, because outside of Ward 168 is a waste land. All the top supermiddles of a few years ago - Froch, Kessler, Bute, AA, Dirrell, are all either retired, about to retire, or are washed up. I hope we see DeGale vs Ward. Ward will make DeGale look like the bum he is.
Chunky is a sharp puncher, he hits hard enough even though he isn't a one-hitter quitter. He's been hit flush before and hasn't really been hurt, maybe the one exception being that Polish guy he fought after the Groves robbery. Even then it was only a slight wobble and he'd been out of the ring a long time. He took Groves shots a lot better than Froch did.
13 Points. A Chunky Dozen, I guess he just wanted to make sure he lost. Charlie the Gent:"Tonight ain't your night Chunks we are going for the price on Groves". Chunky: "Ok, I better lose by 13 points, just to be sure" Charlie The Gent: "That's the spirit kid. 13 comes after 12, in case you get lost".
