It is hard to believe that it's been over a year since Carlos Condit last stepped in the cage. He's been out rehabbing the knee he blew out in his 2014 fight against Tyron Woodley. The dude is set to return this weekend against Thiago Alves.

Alves is always dangerous and most recently blasted out Jordan Mein with a crushing body kick back.

    It should be fun.

I hope Condit has recovered from the injury. Some guys are never the same after that. Condit should be in the top 5 if the injury hasn't slowed him down. He could get another title shot if he beats Alves and then gets a win over a top 5 guy.

KJ Noons is fun to watch. He's one of the best pure boxers in MMA.

    Lentz-Olivera is pretty good.

Condit should win a wide UD. He's a good fighter but I don't think his nickname suits him very well.

Condit has 27 finishes in 29 wins. His nickname fits his fighting style. The only time I thought he was trying to win on points was the fight with Diaz.

This is exactly correct. Condit is a finisher but he bitched up versus Diaz. It was a great strategy but turned a can't miss barn burner into a boring fight.

That was the biggest disappointment with that fight. Two guys were known for giving it everything they had to finish fights, only one guy came in with a strategy to win points instead of actually defeating his opponent.

Condit was outclassed against GSP, but he went all out instead of fighting cautiously. He landed that crazy head kick and almost got the knockout. He probably would have knocked Hendricks out if that had been a 5 round fight. He's finished some top guys like Rory. He has a decent shot of beating any welterweight today if he's still in his prime.

His last fight was shitty to watch. Not his fault. It sucks seeing that kind of injury end a fight. I hope it doesn't slow him down now.

Oliveira looked impressive against Noons. KJ is usually harder to take down than that.

The other Oliveira had a rough night against that English dude. The other other Oliveira is up next.

Jesus. That was violent. Condit's elbows are devastating.

Alves is always dangerous, but I can't argue with the stoppage. Condit just gets better into the later rounds. If the fight had continued, Alves would have been hurt worse than he was.

I just rewatched the 2nd round. That was pound for pound one of the worst ass beatings in UFC history. Condit landed that huge elbow and transitioned into a slam, then had Thiago's head pinned between his legs while he was punching him in the head. Knocking a guy out with one punch is merciful compared to what Condit just did.

Yeah Gattles, what are you talking about?

Condit is one of the most violent fighters in the UFC, with a shit load of finishes. It really is just the Diaz fight that's the exception.

Condit throws elbow combinations like boxers throw punches. Who else can drop a top fighter like Alves with standing elbow strikes? The only other time I remember was the Marquardt / Woodley fight in Strikeforce.

This is the only other fight I've seen where standing elbows were used that effectively. It sucks that Marquardt isn't this good anymore.

Woodley is the last guy to defeat Condit, although it was from the freak injury. I'd love to see Condit / Woodley 2.

A real natural born killer like Fedor or Tyson would never have fought the way he did vs. Diaz. I think he's a very good and exciting fighter but he's no seek and destroy/kill or be killed type fighter. The NBK moniker would be more appropriate for someone like Thiago Alves f/e.

This is another one, Marquardt / Gouveia. It looks like something you'd see in a video game. I would love to see Nate turn his career around and get back to this level somehow. Like Lawler and Arlovski did.

Condit is a seek and destroy / kill or be killed kind of fighter in every fight except that one. Did you see the GSP fight? Most kickboxers stop throwing kicks when they realize their opponent can take them down at will. Condit knew he couldn't stop the takedown, and he still threw that crazy off balance head kick that almost won the fight. And did the kind of damage that led to GSP retiring at a young age for a fighter.

I'd love to see Condit / Diaz 2. I get the feeling that the real Natural Born Killer would come out for the rematch. Too bad they banned Nick from fighting because he likes to get high.

When you you watch that elbow combination, it's amazing Condit was able to land that second one at such a close distance. After watching the replay a few times, I have no idea how Alves kept going.

I hope the UFC gives us Condit-Woodley II. It would be interesting to see what Woodley does if he has to go 5 rounds with Condit.

not sure if condit can improve his takedown defense at this point in his career, but he's still a top 5 guy at welterweight and is a threat to anyone in the division. I think he's a tough outing for lawler, rory, and hendricks especially in a five rounder.

I can't help but think Condit is somewhat of an underachiever.

He can look beastly at times. When I first saw him I thought he was probably dominant champion material, but of course he's never even been champion.

Nah, I think he was just following a gameplan formed by his trainer. And it did work, it was negative and boring, but he won easily.

Yeah, I am a fan of Nick Diaz and think he's a wasted talent. But Condit's decision to move more in their fight was rooted in a solid Greg Jackson strategy to exploit Nick's lacking footwork rather than because Carlos was scared.

Condit never hesitated to step right to truly dangerous fighters like Dan Hardy, Stun Gun, Hendricks, or Alves. So I find it amazingly hard to believe he'd be afraid of Diaz who lacks one punch knockout power or a consistent wrestling game.

I hate Greg Jackson for robbing us of a slugfest but it was a brilliant game plan. Fear had nothing to do with it.
