Lewis. Foreman was very vulnerable to the cross an Lewis is strong enough not to get bullied by Foreman
Dare I say - I think you're right. And I say that as a lifetime Lummox hater. The Lewis from say, the Golota fight, I think would have KO'd Foreman. Foreman KO's the early 90s Lewis, however. Lummox was far clumsier and easier to hit in the early 90's before Manny cleaned him up and made him a finished product.
I'd favour Lummox due to his size and jab most likely being able to keep Big George at arm's length. Of course Foreman is very live.
Lewis tended to meet big guys he perceived as threats head-on and tried to take them out as soon as possible. I think that's what would happen here
While it would be possible for him to win that way, it would be a highly dangerous approach. I think he'd be more cautious.
True. I think that was because he couldn't keep anybody with a good jab at bay so he usually reverted to plan b pretty quick. This'd be a brawl really quickly, either guy might win....I think my money would be on Foreman actually
Lewis. The perfect George is a bit of young George and a bit of old George. 73-74 George was hugely powerful, but limited. ALSO :: at the notion that Lewis used to try and get rid of big men early. The only two times he even "tried" that were when Mike Grant came at him and when Golota came into the ring all spazzy after some injection he took before the fight. He only woke up after Briggs hit him and he certainly LOST the first two rounds vs Vitali.....who must be the epitome of the "big dangerous guy I better get him out of there early" claim that is being made.
lets rephrase, maybe the point is more bromidic - guys who could get to him took his preferred tactic of not letting guys get to him away. Between his jab, size and aggression Foreman would force a fight.
Foreman could not box to save his life. Big, open wild swinging George would get so picked-off by Lewis' jab - and let's not fuck-about...Lewis' jab was ramrod - and blasted by overhand rights. Lewis early.
Lewis should pick him off and stop him in around 7. He's always in danger of course but he had legit boxing skills. Foreman was a smart animal and a dumb boxer.
Lewis probably was the better boxer, but I think Foreman matches badly with him and he gets taken out in the middle round.
Lewis' boxing ability was overrated by all this crap about him being a 'chess player' and other nonsense. His jab was decent enough but he relied mostly on his big right hand. He isn't good enough to keep Foreman off him with that pawing jab - he'd have to fight. From that point, this is a 50/50 fight. MTF
