A fighter is floored. Bell rings to end round, and it is not the final round. What can, or should, happen next Bear in mind, the fighter is still conscious, attempting to rise, but is on the floor and the bell has run and he was not hit after the bell...... :dunno:
Should be the same as any other time. He either beats the count and can/can't continue, or he gets counted out and loses by KO.
Yep. Johnson was looking for somwehere soft to land, on the way down {he may have been already down, in fact he was} Joshua hits him with a sloppy uppercut, heavy shot though. Johnson goes down, bell rings, referee and cornerman help him up.
As far as I know, the saved by the bell rule is pretty standard around the world. Odd they'd give the visiting fighter a chance to not get counted out.
I thought there was going to be DQ...............as the cornermen came into the ring. The referee then started helping them :: In fact, referee goes so far as to wave it off. Then helps the guy up, Then lets it go on. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://swf.tubechop.com/tubechop.swf?vurl=eMSjA2oWT2Q&start=342.64&end=367.26&cid=6118651"></param><embed src="http://swf.tubechop.com/tubechop.swf?vurl=eMSjA2oWT2Q&start=342.64&end=367.26&cid=6118651" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
That is a dq, if the ref wants it to be. Let's check the unified rules: #5. There is a mandatory 8 count. #10. A boxer who has been knocked down cannot be saved by the bell in any round. #11. Boxers injured by fair blows who cannot continue lose by TKO. #2. The ref is the sole person who can stop a bout. #9. Get knocked out of the ring, you have 20 seconds. Not to be helped by anyone, but if helped, the ref can deduct points or dq the boxer at his sole discretion. #2 and #9 lead to the conclusion that the ref decides what happens when someone helps a knocked down fighter. #5 suggests that no Mandatory 8 was given here. It is my personal belief that there should be no Mandatory 8 count when a fighter is down after a round is over. I prefer the timekeeper ring the bell at the 3:00 mark every time. If a fighter gets up before the 10 count completes after a round is over, it should go to the cards if last round or generally give him until the round begins in other rounds.
It really was farce factory all fucking night. Kevin Mitchell only had to get to the end of the round and his fight would have gone to the cards and he would have been the winner.
Thank you harolD I mean mikE :bears: JIM! :: just kidding.............I think the referee knows he fucked up by letting Johnson get nailed several times after the bell, so he waved it off, thought "Oh fuck, possible controversy".......and waved it back on, safe in the knowledge that it was all moot in any event.
that was weird :: and dangerous :nono: I think the lack of a count at the end of the round turned Michael Watson into a vegetable
A lot of these British fight cards have recently degenerated into the amateur-hour theatrics of lore. I don't know if Eddie Hearn knows what the fuck he is doing.
