Well, we did, and so did MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani, who had Weidman on the phone on the latest episode of his MMA Hour and asked him about the matter.

"We were both at the same pool party," Weidman explained. "So we ended up getting together, hanging out, I talked to him, he gave me some advice."

Mayweather, who is the highest-paid athlete on the planet, is coming off boxing's "Fight of the Century", a long-awaited battle versus fellow pound-for-pound great Manny Pacquiao that earned him well over a hundred million dollars. He calls himself "Money" for a reason, so if you have the chance to talk to the man, what topic else to pick, other than -- right, money?

But judging from the sound of Weidman's narrative, this might be the only topic you can really talk about with Mayweather:

"I just talked to him about business stuff, he told me how much money, he just went right into money," Weidman said. "He's Floyd "Money" Mayweather for sure. I'm like ‘hey how are you doing man, I have a lot of respect for you.' He was like ‘aww, I made so far $125 million,' I was like, ‘wow I didn't even ask you about that, but that's awesome.' [Mayweather said] ‘I own a private line of planes, I own everything.' I'm like,' that's awesome, I didn't ask you, but that's great to hear. I wish I had all that stuff.'"

Weidman also recounted that it was Mayweather, who asked for the meeting. This is coming as a bit of a surprise, since the outspoken boxer has made several dismissive remarks about the sport of mixed martial arts and it's fighters in the past.

"We had a conversation, he was cool, he knew all about me," Weidman said. "He sent [actor] Chuck Zito to come get me to come hang out with him, that's the way it went down. He was cool, it was a good experience. He's definitely a good guy to know. ... He's a pretty down to earth guy, he loves money, and he's as successful as you can possibly be as an athlete. I've got respect for him."

One of these guys is way overpaid for the amount of entertainment he's given us in recent years. Or the other guy is way underpaid. Has Weidman even made 1 million from a fight? Less than 1% of what Floyd made against Pacman. I'm pretty sure Floyd carries around more in cash than Weidman has made from a fight.

Im sure since he became champ, he has made over a million per fight. He was holding out on contract negotiations until after he beat silva. Which made im valuable.

I just looked up the official numbers. Weidman made 400k for the Silva rematch, 450k against Machida and 500k against Belfort. I'm guessing it was over a million each if you count endorsements.

I've bought 3 of his last 4. I knew the Anderson rematch wasn't going to end well, so I streamed that one.

The way the UFC works is good for the fans. The best have to fight the best. Top boxing stars just make a lot more in terms of the percentage of sales.

Yeah, but mid carders make more in the UFC then they do in boxing. But MMA is a young sport. And payouts will only get bigger with time. That being said, i would never want MMA fighters making the money mayweather does.

    Yep...

People w/Insane Levels of Money Typically have SMARTER People Managing it for Them...In Floyd's Case, there's A LOT of Smarter Motherfuckers w/Access to his Funds, Making NO Mention of the Ridiculous Amounts of CASH Dude Flaunts...

Wouldn't Surprise REED if Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars Worth of Floyd's "Show" Money has Already Come Up Missing...

That's the thing. People think if they just hire some smart people to watch their money, they will be okay. But you have to hire educated people and you still have to be smarter than them. Learn about how money works, especially when you are making so much. Learn accounting. Because you need to be able to audit motherfuckers that are watching your money and make sure they arent fucking you. Floyd aint doing that shit. He is still working on that Harry Potter Book.

Really? i don't see that at all. Both guys are pretty similar but I think Rockhold is a bigger stronger agile version of Weidman.

Rockhold-Weidman is a pick em fight in my opinion. Both guys are extremely well-rounded and I don't think Weidman's wrestling advantage or Rockhold's slight striking advantage will make a difference. I think it will come down to Weidman having the better chin and just being a bit tougher. Weidman has that Chuvalo look where you could hit him with a bat and he won't go anywhere.

    Great fight.
