YUP.......this isn't Mayweather vs. Pac...Floyd has NOBODY he could fight that would outsell Cotto vs. Canelo,..but the way it sounded it looks like Cotto would want to take a few weeks of spend time with the family....so Cotto vs. Canelo won't happen till NOVEMBER...

All Cotto has to do is fight him.

Cotto was a young man then accustomed to coming in at 140.

Geale is an aged scrub accustomed to coming in at 160.

Asking Geale to come in at 157 is akin to asking THAT Cotto to come in at 137.

There haven't been rumors of Cotto failing drug tests and having them covered up like Floyd.

Cotto doesn't have fighters under his promotional banner who have tested positive and yet somehow still managed to get title shots.

Not without being HEAVILY criticized for it and he is being criticized for it as he should be. Last nights fight was a fucking joke. Position of leverage? How about a position of bullshit. I want to see the best fights happening in boxing. Thats the problem today, to many "fighters" think they are in the position of leverage.

Honestly, it should be some time down the line. Cotto said as much. But the fight needs to be built properly. And i hope they dont have it at cowboy (mexican) stadium.

"NOW" Be Explained and Justified by Leverage???...That's How Boxing's ALWAYS Been, Homey...

From the EARLIEST Prizefights in the History of the Sport, Fighters/Managers/Promoters w/the MOST Leverage GOT What they Wanted...Period...& Those that Wanted IN had to PLAY the Game Looooooooooong Enough to GET that Opportunity to Seize and Utilize their OWN Leverage...Nobody's Reinventing the Wheel Here, Sorry...

Sooooo, Instead of Hating the Playa (Miguel Cotto), Hate the GAME (Boxing)...

For the BETTER Part of 2 YEARS, REED's Been Saying GGG Should Look Elsewhere to Forge his Path, to Build his Legacy...Supermiddle's a Mere 8lbs North, Dude...Cotto's Moved Up Damn Near 30lbs Over the Course of his Career...

I don't hate Cotto, I am fond of him still, and will always, as long as I follow boxing, ,feel sorry for him reeling around the ring, looking desperately for somewhere safe as Margarito ran after him with his loaded mitts.

I am just sorely disappointed that Cotto has not taken away a bit of humanity from that experience.

Rather than deciding that he will never see another man cheated as he was, it seems the man has decided "fuck it, boxing is brutal, I better do unto others what they would do unto me, only do it first....."

    It's a pity.

I agree with this. I don't squarely lay the blame for this at Cottos door.

What annoys me is how he is following in the footsteps of this shit, rather than bucking the trend.

Oscar got paid BAZILLIONS to be drained for the Pacquaio fight.

Geale got what, a million, tops, if he was lucky, and he doesn't even get the courtesy of people saying "Hey, Geale was drained".........which is at least what Oscar gets.

Not that I don't agree with you, I've always believed there's enough weight classes in boxing to accomodate everyone, I simply hate these catchweight fights, even when one of my fav fighters, if not my favourite, is involved. But If Geale got really paid 1 million for that fight I understand why he signed this contract. That might be as much as he has earned for his entire career.

On an another subject, catchweight or not, that first knockdown was beautiful! What a counter!

Geale was def drained, check out the interviews as he's dropping weight, he wasn't at all happy. Still, Cotto looked fantastic and woulda smashed him anyway.

Those guys also fought the best of the best. They didn't worry about scrubs fighting at fucking catchweights. Cotto is good enough he didn't need Geale to be at a catchweight that was just silly.

Notwithstanding your perverse fascination with how much fighters do and don't get paid, I sincerely doubt Geale got more than £200,000

He would be lucky if he got around $300,000.

As a former titlist, coming down in weight to accommodate Cotto, thereby having no chance of winning, he should have gotten more.

I'm a fan of Cotto but this situation is absurd. That boxing fans endorse this bullshit makes me question if they are really fans of the sport or simply of some boxers. Cotto-Geale wasn't a really compelling fight at mw, Cotto is a lot better and the only x factor was how he was going to cope with Geale's size and strenght. But by forcing him to drained himself to make the weight, they actually turned Geale's few advantages against him. It made for a showcase and a mismatch that neither entertained nor taught us anything new. With the already too numerous weight classes in boxing, catch weight doesn't have their place in the sport. But when it's a title fight, and worst of all, when it's the champion who ask for it, the sanctioning bodies should man up and straight up disallowed them.

If Cotto is not a middle weight like he says, he needs to drop his belt and go back to 154.

Cotto wants no part of Golovkin, at any weight.
