Does Cotto fare better than Trinidad here, can he do the unthinkable and get the upset victory?

Hopkins too big and too complete at 160. Cotto doesn't really do anything better than Tito other than move around. Doubt it helps him much against Hopkins.

This is a ridiculous mismatch. Hopkins was a guy that dominated giants like Pavlik and Tarver. Cotto is small for a Welterweight let alone Middleweight. Xplosive is bang on the money.

Nope. Tito had faster hands, more accuracy, better combinations, more punch variety, and better stamina.

    A superior talent to Cotto.

Cotto would have died against Trinidad at any weight... It's as easy a mythical match prediction as Pernell Whitaker vs. Chucky T

Handspeed is similar, perhaps a slight edge to Trinidad. Cotto has better movement, better footwork, better jab, better punch variety, better ring intelligence, better overall skill level, and better at not being boxed shitless via a jab and bit of movement.

How in the Hell does Cotto have better punch variety when he's a one handed fighter? EVERYTHING for Cotto is based around his left hook - whether it be to the head or body.

Trinidad had power in both hands, and a full arsenal of punches.

Also, I would disagree about Cotto having a higher ring IQ. I don't know what in the Hell makes you think Cotto is some ring professor. He's not a particularly smart fighter, and is often confused at which strategy he wants to use in their.

Trinidad fought one way, but KNEW how to fight that one way very well. His ring IQ was not low at all, and although he had weaknesses that could be exploited - Cotto had none of the attributes to expose them with.

Trinidad fucks Cotto up 11 times outta 10.

And I wouldn't talk about getting boxed shitless in this comparison.

Let me know when Trinidad was ever hopelessly outboxed by a fighter as mediocre as Austin Trout.

You have got to be kidding me, Tito's ring IQ was Khan esque. Stick a jab in his face and move around a bit, and he was completely lost. The Winky fight was far more shameful than the Trout fight.

Tito was literally clowned and whitewashed by a basic jab. Most overrated fighter ever, all he had was a hard, accurate left hook, and size.

I won't even continue this debate if you're gonna claim Tito's ring IQ was on the same level as Khan's.

    That's simply a ridiculous statement.

Tito had better, less basic offense than Khan, but his ring IQ was fucking terrible. If you didn't stand in front of him and let him tee off on you with the left hook, he looked like a total scrub.

Watch the Oscar fight, and the Hopkins and Winky fights and try and tell me his ring IQ was anything but fucking terrible.

The Oscar fight was close. Winky and Hopkins were also bigger men.

No way Cotto or any present day welter for that matter could put on the performance they did.

I'd still like to hear Mex defend Cotto getting schooled by mediocre Trout.

At least Tito only lost to top fighters.

I have my doubts about Cotto beating David Reid and I KNOW he couldn't beat Fernando Vargas at 154.

Those guys IMO were better fighters than Trout, Margarito, and Clottey.

I think you guys have forgotten quite how shit and inept Tito looked Vs elite fighters. He was reduced to a plodding left hooker, with his feet in mud, and the IQ of a fencepost.

Xplosive - the Trout fight? Just one of those random things. Even a lot of all time greats lost to lesser fighters, such as Duran and Ali. Shit happens, boxing can be unpredictable.

I put it down to bad style matchup and bad day at the office, 50/50. I would pick Cotto in a rematch, though I still think it would be close due to styles.

Trinidad on his WORST night would have never lost to an Austin Trout. And a prime Tito at 154 fucks up any version of Sergio Martinez, healthy knees and all.

Cotto isn't a middleweight, you guys are being unfair.

Cotto is a Middleweight Champion, but not a Middleweight.

    Come the fuck on.

Hopkins would obviously wipe his ass with Cotto, you're talking about an ATG fighter who's considerably bigger. Trinidad beats Cotto as well, but imo that's due to size & style matchup. Overall, Cotto is a much more complete fighter than Tito ever was.

Trinidad was a better fighter than Cotto. Period!

Cotto's "skills" are being overrated by epic proportions.

Cotto has always been a solid guy, but Trinidad was clearly a superior talent all around. It's not even a debate, in all honesty.

Neither guy's best weight. Camacho's prime was 130-135. Cotto's prime was 147. I guess I'd take Camacho but it'd be close.
