The three elite, YOUNG talents

I think it's apparent at this point that there's three guys in the sport under the age of 30 who have the potential of eventually being the top 3 P4P: Loma, Crawford, and Spence.

I'm glad the Khan-era of boxbot amateurs seems to be over. As these three guys have REAL skills and ability, yet despite their great skills all look to finish fights inside the distance.

 

Roman gonzalez is well under 30

 

Forgot about the tiny fella.

Definitely a compelling talent.

Spence doesn't yet deserve to be in the same conversation. He hasn't fought anyone.

 

Hopefully we do indeed see Spence vs Porter in Sept.

I don't know. Spence got hit with some clean shots by that scrub he faced. I wouldn't be surprised if Porter/Spence turned out the same way Porter/Broner did.

I agree Spence looks like the goods. But again, he hasn't fought anyone. I would think Porter for his next fight might be rushing it a bit.

 

I don't think he had any respect of regard for Del Greco's power. He simply wanted to dispatch him early.

Guys like Shawn Porter 9/10 get eaten alive by technicians like Spence. Add to that the fact that Spence has legit pop. I'm with REED - I see Porter getting stopped.

Yes, Spence's Resume Needs BEEFING Up, but it's Not for a Lack of Trying on Spence's or Haymon's Behalf...Nearly 2 Years Ago, Spence was Trying to Make Bouts with the Likes of Andre Berto, Josesito Lopez and Alfonso Gomez, to No Avail....

Spence is just a better boxing talent than Broner.

 

Spence schools Porter, and possibly stops him late.

I see Spence ending up at 154 pretty soon, though. He's got the frame for it. Would love to see him get the winner of Cotto-Canelo and I think there's more of a chance for that than either of those guys facing Triple G at 160.

147 and 154 are shaping up to be the best divisions in boxing again. 126-130 also has some great talent with Loma being the best of the bunch IMO.

 

Make that FIVE by including EL DEMENTO, Felix Verdejo!

 

Time will tell with Verdejo. He's only 21 so I believe he can be an elite one day (though it's no guarantee). But as of THIS MOMENT, he's nowhere near the class of Loma, Crawford, and Gonzalez, who are all currently top 10 P4P guys.

He's also not as good as Spence right now, but I'll give him time because he's still a baby and Spence is coming into his own at 25.

 

mayweather jr seems to be wisely leveraging his current status to get behind spence. if he can convince porter or thurman to face spence on his september card it may give the kid reason to stick with mayweather promotions for a while, thus finally legitimizing the operation.

BTW Spence is a properly good boxer. I wonder if Irish has even seen him fight, after lumping him in with that scrub Broner.

He is sharp, focused, actually thinks about what he's doing in there, and has a very good variety of punches for a young fighter. Good bodyshots too, good footwork, and solid power.

One thing about him is he's not particularly quick, but it doesn't matter much if you make up for it in all other areas. Gonzalez is actually slow for a flyweight, but he's an elite fighter.

I think Spence and Chenko shall prove to be better than Crawford.

 

Yeah, While Spence IS Athletic, it Doesn't Jump Out at You, Necessarily....

MORE Athletic than Crawford, but Definitely Not a Sugar Shane, Zab or Even Andre Durrell Level PURE Athlete....

Spence seems like the ANTI-Broner.

Broner is a brash asshole. Spence is quietly confident.

Broner is more flash than substance in the ring, with little thought behind his punches. Spence is no bullshit, everything done with a purpose.

Broner wants to be Floyd. Spence seems to be his own man.

And Crawford is the same kinda man and fighter as Spence. So it's refreshing to know these two could soon be ruling 140 and 147.

I'd be willing to bet on Spence ' s eventual ascension to elite status but let's acknowledge Broner, among others who ultimately proved less than elite, appeared every bit as dominant against the kind of competition Spence has thus far faced. I'm not criticizing Spence for his comp. I'm just saying - at this stage he's proven very little.
