I was a little surprised that he did it with Smith of all people, who tried to weight cheat him.

 

BTW, just in case anyone didn't get why Irish was wrong about the tax bands, let me explain. When you move into a higher tax band, you don't get taxed a higher rate on ALL your income, that would obviously be too absurd. You get taxed a higher rate only on the income that falls into that band.

So hypothetically - if he was $7500 dollars under the highest tax band, and the $37500 he gave back would have pushed him into the highest tax band, he'd only get taxed the higher rate on $30000.

That's why it never makes to actually give money away for tax purposes, only to pretend to, and just deduct as many expenses as possible etc.

Yes, I confess....I believed Andre Ward was participating in a Tax-Avoidance scheme and that the Paul Smith money would have exposed him to Lauren Hill + Wesley Snipes jail-time...I admit it, I launched into a fiscal review of the matter without fully thinking the situation out. OK. Happy :dunno:
