I'm left in terms of government involvement/fiscal policy, not extreme left, but far left of where you are. I'm far right of most in terms of social policy. If I were a US politician I'd have no party that I could join because of that apparent contradiction. Both democrats and Republicans would run from me.

 

IMO...Canada has the perfect balance when it comes to size and reach of government. That's why the middle class here is so much bigger, relatively, to the States and almost anywhere on the planet.

The reason this post disgusted Hut, and disgusts me too....is that you act as though it's one extreme or the other.

Government can have a substantial role without you losing the benefits of capitalism/free markets. Ask any Canadian...we're not exactly living like Cubans up in here. You know Kevin O'leary and another Shark from Shark Tank are Canadian right? Doesn't look like "government" kept them back from making 100s of millions now does it?

 

The role of Government is to keep the rich in check and to give everyone else a fighting chance. There's a reason why US has so much poverty and why real ghettos don't exist in Canada. The poor in the US invariably stay poor unless they can box, rap, win the lottery or some other one in a million chance.
